My APS and built motor are BACK !!!
Good god what a rush!
This car is maddening even with the 8.6:1 Arias pistons and the stock Unichip tune. The car wanted to break the tires loose in first and second at 40-50% throttle. When i was letting Tom at Lightspeed drive the first 20 so miles, i kept my eye on the Zeitronix display and boost would build so instantly, im glad i didnt get any higher compression pistons then i did. When i was driving home, my butt dyno was telling me i was making 60-80 ft-lbs more torque around 3000-4000 rpms then when my car was tuned with the ATI SC and stock motor. Im probably making more power and definately more torque untuned for my compression then i did tuned with the ATI... teehee.
The ATS flywheel and clutch somewhat intimidated me at first and i actually killed the car at a light with a slight slop. After 5 more minutes of driving her, i was back at ease. The new ATS flywheel spins up so fast now i think im on the clutch 50% longer then i use to, while getting out of 1st gear. It takes some getting use to after 6 months of driving an auto. :P The 1350kg ATS pressure plate is nothing to worry about. It's maybe 35% heavier then stock and for me, 210lbs or so of manliness, its absolutlty no problem to live with everyday. I wouldnt want to be caught in stop and go traffic only because of the light flywheel, not the clutch. The only thing ive noticed was the crackling/grinding noise they make while getting the car rolling under ~2400 rpms. The clutch/flywheel really like to be spinning above 3000 rpms i guess. Ive racked up 55 miles today, 1445 more miles to go and then its off to tune that Unichip and max out these silly lil injectors.
I'll get some pics and more details out to you guys soon!!!
My goodness the turbos sing!

I think I passed you on Brittmoore at about 5pm going the opposite direction (SS with wheels), I noticed a little something in the front fascia. :P
Sounds cool, I decided to wait for the APS Single Turbo.
Post some dynos when you get that thing tuned!

Some people will tell you to do a hard break in right away to seat the rings, they say the window for getting a REALLY good seat on the rings is within the first 20 miles of engine life.Others say run it easy for 750-1500 miles or so...Which method will you choose?
we personally stuck to good old school methods and ran it easy for 750 miles, now its time to tune!!
Ps we just tuned our stock motor APS car and went from 380whp 350tq to 400whp 395tq and ran an 11.8@118 tonight...

We certainly must meet up when you drop by Houston. I didnt know your car was already at SGP. I'll have to drop by and say hi to Kyle and take a peak.

This makes sense for a sports car or a car built for racing. But for a daily driver, like a 4 door sedan, that will hardly ever see past 4000 rpms, then id follow the factory manual and take it easy the first 1000 miles for the best break in.

Hey Enron...which ATS did you go with? The triple or the twin? I'm trying to decide myself. Kinda leaning towards the twin since I don't plan on going over 600hp. Also, did you put the injectors that came with the APS on, or did you upgrade them as well?
t32gzz...How's it going man? I met you out at a small meet at the Nissan place a while back. (SB track with Gunmetal GT7's). What's being done to your car now? Jotech isn't messin with it anymore?

You "were" running a gb?...or is it still open? I might be game...dependant on when this gb will end (if it hasn't already).
Can prices be stated? Best I've found is $1990 for the twin.
Thanks,
Mike
Enron, congratulations on your car. Yeah, the difference between a TT kit and the ATI is like night and day when it comes to trq in the lower part of the power band...its probably a whole new driving experience for you.
Regarding the clutch noise, the "cement mixer" noise you hear at 2500rpm is normal. The lightened flywheel, and thin full floating carbon disc rattle a bit under the flywheel gets up to speed, and out of the loading zone around 2500rpm or so. Just tell yourself it adds character...LOL.
The $1990 is shipped to your door.

I was bumping it every few weeks but i guess im just no good at sales. Hopefully i will get some video of the car soon and try to catch the sound the clutch/flywheel makes for all to hear. Honestly, like gq said, it really gives the car character and isnt annoying at all. Its like a reminder that you dont drive a friendly street car any more and hardcore car enthusiasts will know how much work has been put the car.
Oh yea, im going to try and continue this GB, id hate to let the other 2 guys down. Basicly this GB saves another 100 off the already nice price from forgedinternals.com but you will have to wait maybe a week or 2 more because ATS Japan wont drop ship directly to customers in this GB. Maybe I can get Tom to purchase through ATS N America and avoid all the shipping hassle and you get instructions in English!

Thanx gq, I think i finally have the car just the way i like it. The turbos spool so effortlessly, the motor spins smoothly across the rpm range, thanx Dennis, and the clutch is just a joy to play with....
Excuse me, i think i have something in my eye.

Enron - You got the name right. Yeah, drop by and check on my baby. They got the motor back yesterday and have begun the assembly. Shouldn't ne too much longer. I will probably pick her up on the second Saturday in April. You will most likely be tuned and having even more fun by then. Nice choice on the clutch. Did you get the carbon metallic coating too?
Mike, yeah I remember you. Jotech does not build motors, they farm out the work. SGP has the reputation and experience with the VQ, so it was an easy decision. I am having a full build done with cams and headwork. Should be fun!

Best to get the car/engine on a true load based chassis dyno to make sure that you have a safe air fuel ratio, ignition timing and boost pressure, I normally put around 600 miles on the car (on the chassis dyno to run in/bed in the rings and bearings) and then start to map the computer to ensure a powerful and safe tuning strategy, good luck mate and I hope all goes to plan.
Peter
Hey guys, a friend of mine took some video of the car being broken in. Can anyone here host my video? If you could, just send me a PM or email. The info is under my profiles. Thanx!
