Its time for an update.

Ive racked up 940 miles on the new motor as of this morning and had the second oil change back at 720 miles. Ive been using regular Penzoil 10W-30 and Mobil1 M105 oil filters. The motor seemed to be running smoother or so at around 600 miles. Maybe this is a sign she is breaking in nicely. The motor revs through the rpm range with less change in harmonics then stock, maybe even smoother then stock. The ATS clutch seems to have broken in because there is much less chatter when im on the gas uder 2000 rpms. Only in 5th gear does the clutch chatter any more. The cement mixer sounds comming from the clutch at idle has become slightly more audible now then before. IMHO, these noises are not bothersome and still relatively mute with my Injen SES exhaust.

All in all, i am very pleased to say the least. I wake every monring knowing i have a fun commute awaiting me. This long break in is killing me! I cant wait to floor her at 500 rwhp. *<;D....

Id rather wait until at least 5000 miles but i dont want to run 500 rwhp with dino oil in her so im going to do the 3rd oil change at 1500 miles with Mobil1 10W-30 full sythetic, or a combination of the next thicker grade. If the wear indicators from the oil testing labs dont look as good as id like them to be, i'll move to Amsoil.

So what does your break in look like in a nutshell?

I will be doing the crazy man's break in...start car, idle 20 min..shut down, change oil...i get my car in a few hours, put 100-150 miles on her, dyno tomorrow at low boost...change oil again a few hundred miles later...dyno second time for 15+psi (shooting for 500rwhp for now)...change to synthetic at around 1500miles...my $.02

I like the crazy break in. GQ's method was about the same and he seems to be donig very well with his new motor.

I have no idea. Id guess it would be a full synthetic since it resists higher tempertures then regular oil.

From what ive been told, the first 20-30 miles you put on your car will probably make up 90% of the break in for the rings. I would let the car break in on low boost and use up to 60% throttle and up to 4500 rpms. Vary the revs and throttle so the engine sees a broad range of loads for those first important miles. Dont let it sit idle too long or stay at one rpm too long.

Thats at least what was done to my car. Hope that helps.

Enron Exec, congrats on getting your Z back with the newly found power.
Nothing like the rush of the turbos spooling up and a self-inflicted whiplash!!!

Yeah, I finally get my dyno tune tomorrow. Thats why Im up so late, can't sleep with the thought of 500rwhp at my feet.

you already have 500hp (according to brody and chops losing traction in 3rd gear!!!) you just haven't comfortably pushed it yet!..their street tune will probably hold up to be pretty solid, making minor corrections on the dyno...i can't wait--see you at noon!!!
