Default i just never learn

hahahha, i know i will get some flaming on this one but oh well. i think i am the only one running 12 psi on a procharger on a stock motor, hahaha. wait for this, no dyno tuning either! now for sure i am running on the ragged edge but i am running on quite the rich side (i do have boost, fuel pressure, and a/f gauges) and it gives a little smoke to let me know also on a quick stomp on the gas. also the kit has been on for about 2 weeks now and the ambient temps here in oregon have been around 50, so my inlet charge is staying pretty cool. heck i have even left the vdc on a couple times and had it kick in with still no detonation.
if ya'll can't tell, i'm looking for a good excuse to build a new motor, hahahha. i do still have the 7 psi pullies but don't have the heart to put them on.
i have called AEM about their plug and play ecm but they say it is still not available and could not confirm a release date either. does anyone know of another company out there that is making a plug in programmable ecm!! i plan on playing around with this car abit and a technosquare reflash every 6 months would get spendy. i have contimplated a motec but i'm sure you could imagine the wiring to be very complex to integrate on a car i want to retain all stock functions.
btw, i have detonated pistons before in my vette with luckily only broken ring lans and not even cylinder scoring. hopefully if the Z goes, it will be as easy, or just add more parts to my bent and broken trophy wall, hahaha!!!

Go upgrade your AAA towing coverage to 100 miles if you haven't already done that and good luck

There is another ECU option the HKS F-CON V Pro but only programmable by a authorized Pro Dealer.

oh no, no reefer for me, but it is not my first beer, lol. actually just messeged a guy on here selling the built forged short block. will prolly pick it up if shipping is reasonable.

as for my care free attitude on blowing the motor, i have been searching and the vq35 is starting to pop up more in used shortblock form for reasonable prices, making a replacement easy to get. plus it is only one of 7 cars and trucks i have so i don't need to worry if it is down for awhile.

Can you link me to this. ALso how much do you think I would be able sell my VQ35 for w/40 miles on it?

I admire your bravery!

One correction though..when VDC/TCS kicks in, it simply closes the throttle plate slightly, and doesnt actually cut fuel directly or do any other weird stuff. So you will have no issues of running lean.

Keep us posted!

I guess you don't call yourself Overzealus for nothing, lol.

Good luck with the build.

Are you 100% sure of this? When my VDC kicks in my throttle body closes almsot all the way (as can be seen on my boost guage.) If I remember right the service manual states fuel is cut, also.

uh oh, here we go again... (see my previous post about limp mode issue, 3 or 4 pages of people talking about this, never got a final answer, regis would be pissed )

No arguing here, I've got the service manual and it specifically states that fuels is cut along with throttle......

But it's not really any diff. than when you let off the gas and watch the A/F go LEAN like 19:1 lean...it's no big deal 'cause not much air is going in and when some air is going in the ecu is still feeding it gas...

More importantly....between the throttle cut (air) and fuel cut (fuel) proper A/F is still being maintained....if the engines under no load then lean is not a big deal..just cause your foots on the floor doesn't mean the engines under load...the throttle ain't open much when VDC is kicking in....you can verify this by watching your boost/vacuum gauge....

I suggest you speak to Paul Gasparola--the owner of Avalon Racing--about this. According to Paul (and his experience with a Z whose engine blew while under boost with VDC on), VDC not only cuts throttle but also cuts fuel to two cylinders which go momentarily lean and can detonate under boost. Paul recommends never driving with VDC on if you're planning on driving aggressively with an SC or turbo.

Of course, when the throttle plate closes, by default it is going to reduce fuel....but also air. Even when our car hits the rev limit and fuel cut, it doesn't lean out the mixture. Is is not a lean burn...it is a zero burn. In other words, the injector for a particular cylinder does not fire at all. You can theoreticalliy bounce off the rev limiter all day long without running lean, per se. It would be incredibily dangerous for any car to reduce fuel at WOT at redline..that why is completely cuts off the injector...100%. Without fuel in the cylinder, there can be no combustion event, and no detonation.

IMHO, VDC or rev limit bounce isnt going to blow up engines or cause people to run lean.

I heard that VDC will pull timming. This way the fuel is still burnt so no harm is done to the environment, and making less power will drop the car out of redline.

All modern engines with knock sensors are tuned to the edge of engine knock where power and fuel economy are maxed and emissions are lowest. When you add FI, especially at WOT, this balance is ever more precarious. Unfortunately, WOT is the very time when VDC is most likely to cut throttle and fuel (this is actually the traction control aspect of VDC--not the straighten-out-the-car aspect which is mediated by individual wheel braking--bad for your brakes at WOT when boosted). So now, at WOT and high revs with the SC at maximum pumping power, you get a sudden ECU-mediated throttle cut followed by an immediate release back to full throttle when wheel spin is over. This herky-jerky on and off and back on the throttle behavior while your foot is down to the floor with blower at max--and the engine is already at the edge of detonation--is probably what can push the AFR and/or timing over the edge. Your ECU doesn't know you have a blower and a secondary computer control. It's just not designed to operate with these devices and therefore adjust things to prevent detonation.

Corky Bell's book, Supercharged!, has some great explanations of how all the parts of a supercharged system work together along with engine control systems, EFI, knock sensors, etc. It's really a delicate balance.

I have no doubt that the ECU cuts fuel upon a slip event (not just a TB backoff) especially given they way it craps itself durinthe event. Whether or not this can actually lead to a detonation event under boost hasn't been fully answered in my book

oh, do have a question though, as i saw this on the g35 driver forum. i heard vdc does not completely go off even when you have turned the button to off. can't wait to see the answers that will pop up now as it started a long list of different opinions there too.

if you want to blow up your motor, you can at least find out what the vq is capable of by tuning it correctly to see how long it lasts.. it would be good info for us hehe
