Default Suggestions for reasonably priced gauges?

Does anyone have any suggestions on what brand gauges to get that dont cost an arm and a leg? I think I am going to go with boost, e.g.t., and a/f. But I dont really want to pay more than a few hundred. I know it sounds silly to spend thousand for a turbo and try and pinch pennies on gauges but I am trying to keep some kind of budget. These things are so inflated price wise it seems like robbery! I found alot of inexpensive gauges on ebay but who knows how well those will work!

What is your definition of an arm and a leg?

Defi' D-Series Boost Guage is about $115 and its probably the best mechanical boost gauge out there. On the other hand there is the Autometer Mechanical Boost gauge for about $60, but mine was never as accurate as my Defi.

What FI kit are you going with? Are you sure you really need AF and EGT? Unless you are doing your own tuning, one or the other should be enough.

I like the Defi D gauges, but...

1) they are mechanical

2) they read 30psi.

If you're running <10 psi, why would you want a gauge that goes all the way up to 30? Autometer makes some great 15 or 20psi electric boost gauges in a few different styles. They also have LED warning lights wheras the defi-d's don't.

Also, on a professional install, you won't be saving that much money because the mech gauges are much harder to install.

Well I am getting the T-netics ST. I want some black face gauges to sort of match the stockers. I asked a week or so what gauges are really needed and I was given some pretty broad answers. So I just picked three. Shooting in the dark I guess?

Those are what I am running. (A/F in conjunction with the PLX wideband, boost, EGT, oil temp, fuel pressure)

Check out www.forgedinternals.com. Sharif (gq 626) who is a member here has some good prices on the Defi gauges and carries a few different wideband a/f gauges that are pretty reasonable as well. Always good to support a fellow member and site sponsor.

IMO, with the turbonetics kit, going with AF and Boost is adequate. It's enough to tell you if anything is wrong, since you won't be doing any tuning.
