Default Future Roadster Owner (thinking of going Twin turbo)

If you are thinking of buying a 350ZR and load it with money like I did ($18,000) (Volks wheels, Tires, Alpine stereo, brembo brakes, nismo body, paint, full nismo suspension, APS exhaust, APS test pipes, waiting for my APS TT, upgraded trasmition..... installations ,installations, installations). Please take a look at this car and do not make the same mistake that I did.

I hear you, but keep in mind if you are anything like me no matter what you buy you are going to modify your car. What's the difference? You start with a $35-$40K car and go to town modding or start with a $62K car and mod from there.......I have the mod bug and I will modify what ever I get. At least with what I have now, I will be done around $70K. With that Mercedes, the cost would get closer to $100K. And if you think parts and labor are expensive for a nissan/infiniti don't even go there with a Mercedes.

Cesar, thay are very different cars and the Merc is in a higher price range though I like your idea a lot - just imagine the SLK 55 with an APS intercooled twin turbo system, it will be reality very soon.

Zero to 60 MPH in under 4 seconds - what a hoot.

Completely agree!! I have the mod bug too. As much as I try to convince myself I won't mod my next car that much, I always have ended up "going to town". $18,000 into my old Honda Prelude, $40,000 into my previous Audi S4, and I'm up to $18,000 so far on my Z. The biggest reason I didn't go for the SLK 55 AMG, however, is the fact that it is an automatic.

My advice would be to those who have been bit by the mod bug and want relentless power, skip the bolt ons and go right to the turbo kit. For all of the bolt ons I've tried I could have paid for my APS install by now. You just can't beat a turbo'd 350Z or G35, for $40,000 (350Z + Turbo and install give or take a couple thousand) you're getting the performance of a car that cost $60k and up.

Okay, obviously I'm in the wrong line of work here!! Where are you guys getting all this money???? lol I'm guessing a lot of you are running up your credit cards. If you're paying cash, please let me know what you do for a living so I can model myself after you.

Yeah but your mod car is one of a kind. There's extra value in that.

Mercedes is only going to import 1000 SLK55s to the U.S. in 2005, so good luck trying to get one let alone anywhere near that msrp of 61K. Since its a low production vehicle, it'll be like the BMW M3, with a markup of at least 10K. Don't forget to add the insane insurance on top of that. I'll stick to modding my roadster thanks.

i used to love modding, but i agree w/ cesar - just get a faster car. Its cool to be diff and all, but when it comes time to sell (if you do) all that mod money is NEVER residualized.

That and you have to appreciate the work the factory engineers do to make everything work in perfect harmony. A 420Hp Z will never be as fast, or drive as well as a 420HP car that came like that stock. AH well, to each their own, lets all enjoy!

PS...the slk55 while much better than the prev slk, still looks kinda wierd and its an auto (granted 7 spd) right?
