Cruise control
Continuous Variable Cam Timing

And unless you do some tricks to fool the stock ECU you will loose the gauge cluster as well.

As of now I think Motec would be the most suitable and advanced stand alone engine management for the VQ engine on the planet - according to richard at Autronic he won't be producing a stand alone computer to suit fly by wire engines.

Motec = The greatest. I tuned a Motec in a turbocharger Viper a few weeks ago... very detailed yet organized system. After having tuned several standalone EMS'... I cannot believe people care for the interface of the AEM EMS... I cannot stand it... had it in my civic and it had to GO.

Peter: I heard there was already an Autronic with fly by wire... guess I heard wrong!

Uh, the SM4 has an H-bridge driver output. This can be used for throttle by wire.
Now granted the SM4 still has some beta issues and Richard isn't exactly the quickest in responding to problems. But the SM4 will control throttle by wire.

TODD:

APS Peter is correct.. Motec is the best in the world now with the Drive By Wire...

But to my knowledge right now... if you want to retain VDC, TCS and Cruise control.... you will need to hook up the OEM DBW with the MoTeC system... but OEM DBW is very sensitive to a lot of changes, such as Flywheel, Camshafts... etc and it will make the car easily stall out since no one can really tune the OEM DBW system (probably TS can do that now, but I am not too sure)... I am not saying that it is impossible to make very thing works... just that you will need a very experienced motec tuner, such as Nizpro in Melbourne... they have done a few 350Z TT project with MoTec + OEM DBW successfully with the stock flywheel and the stock cams setup.... And I am seeking for their help on their experiences to see if they can do up mine next tuesday with the OEM DBW instead of the MoTeC DBW, so I can get to keep the TCS, VDC and Cruise...

My car was tuned up with the OEM DBW and the Motec at the earlier stage to keep TCS, VDC and Cruise, but with the JUN lighter flywheel, the idle was really bad at 650rpm at the cold start, but somehow it was PERFECT when the engine was warmed up... but when it was coming to the dead stop (still rolling, but on the brake), if I clutch in at any rpm above 1500rpm, the engine would die instantly... and my tuner didn't think nissan idle bump up would work (which I think it might work out well), that was why we never tried that one, so really don't know what problem would that be and hopefully nizpro can solve that too!

Right now... i have the motec DBW connected right now (the only pros to this is that you can adjust the percentage of throttle opening to whatever you want)... it is smooth and nice.... but with my flywheel and the cams.... I need to set the idle up at 1000rpm, otherwise the car might stall out..... and tell you what... I was using JUN flywheel which is even lighter than Nismo piece.... the car would stall sometimes even at 1000rpm and with unstable idling. Also know that MoTeC computer can have a custome traction control added into the system, and you can also adjust to how you like the motec tc to intervene while you lose control.... that sounds cool... but never try that!

I heard that it is VERY hard to get control of the OEM DBW unit since they are very sensitive... that might also by why Apexi still does not have the Power FC for our car, otherwise it might be the greatest thing ever! I will see how well the work turns out next tuesday when I have Nizpro carried out the job... hopefully they can hook it up without any problem!

cheers,

richie

let us know how it goes with the motec. i wonder if they would be interested in setting up a plug and play harness to sell to those interested in running a Motec... if the setup offered some distinct advantages, I would definatly dump the FCON for a Motec... but right now it just wouldnt get me much further.

Charles:

you can contact Simon at Nizpro down in Melbourne... www.nizpro.com.au and I believe that he can organise a plug and play for ya without a problem!

Also I just read the TS website.... it says that the standard DBW will start to close the flap when the rev goes up 5500rpm... so does it mean that this is not looking too good for my 7200rpm setup with my cams when I use the OEM DBW?!

cheers,

richie
