Default Concerned about my transmission.

Hey all. I'm not sure where to start or how to even ask this, but I'm trying to figure out if there is a possible issue with my transmission, of if it's just me!

It just seems that my transmission, or drivetrain, makes a loud (im stealing a phrase from another post i saw) "cement mixer" sound while the car is idling. I notice this a lot when sitting near a wall such as in a drive through, or at the gate at the base I work at when I'm showing them my ID. Then when I take off it just sounds like there is some loud ticking/clunking noises. This is hard to explain but does any of this sound familiar to anyone else? I dont think it's anything to be too concerned about.. but again, I'm not really sure.

Any info/suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Is this a stock clutch as well?
I have heard a little bit of that rattling that you described...even on stock engines...but its usually very very subtle.

It is a 2004, original clutch, car has 19,800 miles on it currently. I bought it used at 13k miles, so I'm not sure of how the car was treated prior, even though it was an older Doctor who traded the car in for a porsche.

I didnt really notice the sound until a few weeks ago.

The car has always been sort of hard to drive to me, but I think that's because I've been used to 5 speeds instead of 6 speeds.

The "cement mixer" sound I'm describing is when the clutch is out, while the car is at idle.

I just picked up an 04 with 34k on it, and my clutch is pretty noisy when idling in neutral. My guess is this is normal, as my clutch works fine and it just came certified from a Nissan dealer.

I guess Im used to a 5 speed and a smoother shifting transmission in my prior car. Oh.. and less noisy!

Regardless, even if the clutch is worn - its just a clutch. If you can afford the Z, chances are you can afford a clutch replacement when it goes out.

its actually because the Z's come stock with lightened flywheels, usually lightened flywheels make a lot of noise under idle, and the noise usually goes away when u clutch in, dont worry its normal

What in the world are you two talking about?

The Z doesn't come with a lightweight flywheel; it's a heavy piece that's just as heavy as most stockers. It's actually the tranny gears that make those cement mixer noises, and it's normal for the Z, nothing to worry about.

The clutch may emit an unusual noise when you start the car, seems to be fairly common with some aftermarket clutches; but the noise usually goes away when the engine is running, even when in idle. Usually if the clutch is worn it'll start slipping.

If I were you I would get it checked; it may be your drive shaft, that sucker can be noisy. It is difficult to tell without being right there in the car.

What do you mean by "difficult to drive."
