Default Why is my boost gauge reading so high?

Hey guys I'm new to forced induction so maybe someone can shed some light. So I just installed my Stage 3 Stillen supercharger. This is the first forced induction install that I have attempted so minus a few minor hangups everything turned out better than I could have hoped for. Thanks to Mike (2003z) for helping me sort some things out. Car pulls pretty damn hard now.

Now onto my question. When I go WOT my Defi boost gauge is reading like 14 psi. Now I know superchargers are a different animal than turbos but I was under the impression that with the 7 lb. boost pulley I would see 7 psi. on the gauge. Can someone clue me in? Thanks.

Where is the gauge connected to read the boost?

Here's a test case. With the key in the run position and engine not running, what does the gauge read. If it reads anything other than zero the gauge is not calibrated.

Is this a mechanical or electric boost gauge?

Assuming the gauge is calibrated correctly, you are actually seeing 14lbs. Which poses different problems altogether.

It's a Defi mechanical and when the key is in the on position it reads right around 7 psi.

Your gauge is not correct. It should read zero with the engine off and key switched to on...

We have a winner, you have a bad gauge. Look @ the paperwork that came w/ the gauge for warrenty issues. Good luck.

You miss me, don't you.

I'll be back in Lex sometime around June 6th.

I have a defi d and after two months of use it became uncalibrated. It would read 2psi when the key is off. I just bought a new one and will send the bad one back for warranty and then resell it in the classifieds when they send me a new one. I will lose about $30 but I won't have to wait for my new gauge.
