2nd day into the built motor project
got some pics if anyone will host them for me as i'm not sure how to do that yet. will be taking many pics through the project to show kind of a step by step of the project from my own return fuel system to building of the motor. you will also get a first eyes glimpse of how unorganized i can be and still make it all work!!!
i got the motor out and quite abit pulled off of the block but hit a roadblock when i didn't have a big enough torx bit to pull the flywheel (making it impossible to hook to the engine stand) and not being able to create enough torque to loosen the balancer bolt. so a trip to the tool store tomorrow will enable me to get it to bare block tomorrow and machine shop on fri.

so day three now. motor is pretty much stripped. but found some funny stuff in there. from those who don't know me, i was running 15psi pullies on a stock motor with an ati kit. had it running rich to help detonation and finally lost some compression on a couple cylinders and was blowing some oil. i thought i had just washed the cylinders and hurt the rings. well pulling the pistons today revealed 5 bent rods!!!! plus 4 pistons with broken ring lands!! i must call myself one lucky sob as this don't happen very often with out one or 2 rods coming through the block. i don't believe this happened from detonation but from just being plain overstressed. i will be very surprised if the guys pushing high hp numbers on stock blocks will do it for very long at all!! luckily the bent rods didn't hurt anything nor the broken ring lands (the bores are denser than the pistons) so my block is still 100%. holding the stock rods next to the pauter ones had me chuckling a bit. no comparison!!
in the pic it is hard to tell the bend in the rod, but some bend in a C pattern 90 degrees from crank centerline and the ones that bent on crank centerline did an S shape. pretty cool really, and adding to my broken and bent parts wall nicely!!! hahaha
more as project progresses.
btw- the light area on the side of the piston is where the ring land broke. it just breaks the whole thing clean out but in the cylinder it holds in. just hurts compression seal really as again the piston is softer than the cylinder walls.

if you are looking for things to do... i spent a full day scraping out the dried liquid gasket in all of the grooves of the front and rear timing covers, the upper oil pan, and a few surfaces on the block itself...
fun, fun, fun

yes, it is north americas most expensive work bench!!! that car has more work done to it than i could start telling here. about 2 years of solid work, 12 months alone spent on hand making 50% of the body by hand (i didn't like the available body kits for the car, so i made my own) lol

now the fun of finding the correct crank bearings!! went to my local dealer and the stampings on the crank and block do not match up with the colors on the bearings!! so now they are calling nissan to help them figure out what sizes i actually need. might be easier to just ground the mains under size and get all the same ones!! even though, the crank journals all were the same exact size. hmmmm, maybe line hone then? i'll wait and see what they come up with.

what is the block code?
for example mine is:
S KSVR
23 - 34 - 45 - 3
GHKE F
i can't remember which code is off my crank and which off the block, but work with me here...you drop the first letter on the first code, so the "s" is ignored, leaving the code at "KSVR"
The second code, drop the last letter, the "f", so the code is "GHKE"
those 8 letters are matched on the nissan flow chart
now, my codes gave me the following bearing sizes:23 - 34 - 45 - 3
the 23 is a size 2 bearing and a size 3 bearing...so when you figure out what sizes you need, understand, if they tell you they can't get the 23 size...ask id they can get a 3 (a single number code denotes 2 of the same size)--so you'll get two 3's...and then order a 2 as well (this will yield two 2's)...now you'll get the sizes you need and you'll have a few left over (sell em in classified section)
letting you know the little secret to getting the sizes you need quicker
if you have any questions, pm me and i'll give you my number
hope that helps

thanks todd for the info, we did make it that far with all the research and codes. but when they did not match up to the color chart and the colors painted on the bearings. the guy working was going to call and just double check to make sure we weren't making any mistakes. i believe we came up with 23-45-3-45. why did nissan have to make it so hard. we were trying to figure out how the hell do you get the crank to run straight threw all those too being different sizes and especially different halves. oh well, looks like it works, lol.

ok, finally back onto the car project! i ride quads too so had to do a freshen up on my bike my painting the frame (candy apple red ofcourse) and a few mods to it for summer. so that took a week and a half out of the Z getting done. started back on the car today with the e-01 install and the emanage. left the camera at home but will get picks tomorrow and will have the emange installed and hoping to start on the fuel system. i am doing an inline pump with no in tank mods other than the return bulkhead. in hteory it should work as good if not better than the kits out there for a return fuel system, but don't mean to talk crap till it's done and hits the dyno! hahaha.
wednesday planning to do head porting and gasket matching, with thurs following with setting lash on the nismo cams. that should suck, lol.

Kinda sounds like my weekend. Lowside at 110mph. It used to be a CBR1000RR. Ouch.

dam dude!!! lucky to still be around or not in the hospital! mine were just simple rolls doing some side hilling climbs on steep sand walls. but i did bend my handle bars with my face hitting a switchback a bit too fast, hahahha. glad to see you are still able to type stuff if you wrecked at 110mph.
