Exclamation Power steering and TT

Well I need to replace my power steering line b/c it would rub against the turbo and in time it made a hole in it. I will be replacing the aluminum line with a steel line, away from the turbo.

Anyone doing a TT install or have a TT kit make sure to check it out.

Car is back on monday

Had the same problem. My installer was actuallly able to fit some sort of bracket that allowed the turbo and the power steering line to not make contact rather than bending the line.

Since it is the return line that is affected we just installed a hi temp hose and routed it away from the turbo.

My power steering line just gave up, but thankfully it started to spew out upon starting the car today and not on my trip back from AAM. I was wondering if I needed to replace the whole line and came across reading that you can use a hi temperature hose?

Can someone explain in further detail in what needs to be done, parts to purchase and if this could be done using jack stands and not a lift? Thanks

Yeap that is what we used, for me it was the return line and since you cannot just buy the return line since Nissan sells the lines as an assembly, we decided to use the hose which then you can place where you want.

If I remember right at each end of the metal tube there is a short hose and we disconnected them and just ran the hose all the way from one end to the other. It can be done with the car on jack stands just a little more of a pain.

LoL, I wished that I caught the thread in which you advised to do this. I would had saved alot of trouble getting this fixed.

When I looked at the line, I didn't see where it was possible to disconnect the aluminum line that was touching the turbo. It didn't look feasible to take just this line off without take other parts off. I was wondering if this task can possibly be done with the basic tools and mechanical knowledge or will I have to tow my car to the shop and have them do it?

yes, it wore thru on my car. I was able to remove the aluminum pipe by itself without taking anything else out. Its very difficult. We welded shut the hole, and then took a 6" or so length of blue aeroquipt -6 hose and cut a slit on it and wrapped the pipe in it and steel wired it on, then bend the line away... from that day on we did that on all customer cars before it wore thru.

I think I want to go ahead and fix my power steering line this weekend...Westpak (or anyone else for that matter) do you remember the exact size/type of hose you used. Since this is my only car I can't take it off then go get a hose...I have to have it before I take it and just replace right then and there.

LOL. I totally forgot about going through this. The stock line "looks" like it's tough but it's only a little aluminum line painted black. We wound up running some braided hose that we had left over from the oil cooler install.

Thanks alot for the sizing westpak. Any recommendation on what type of hose to use (not sure what hi-temp is defined as)?

Nevermind, I just grabbed a 3.5ft section of scrap SS braided -6 (3/8") hose here from work. It should suffice I would expect.

I was going to go with the S/S braided as well, but my shop said that I would need -AN fittings and it would cost too much this way to just replace the power steering line. I went with Wespak's decision to just use a 3 ply 3/8" hydrolic hose with union fittings at each end. I'm going to pick the hose up tonight and get my car back on the road.

BTW, will this hose hold up to the heat? I'm going to route the hose as far away from the turbo, but I wanted to make sure if heat wrap is needed?

Westpak, is the hose holding up okay?

Well since it is a low pressure line I am just going to use screw hose clamps. If that still leaks then I will get a rubber hose of some sort. But this SS line was free and it is PTFE so why not i thought.

Just make sure it is routed away from the turbo, mine has been on for about a year and no problems.
