Default Turbonetics ST -Auto Trans Application

The first auto trans 350Z was installed and has been runing for a few days with good results. It was installed on Officer Tom Gibby's Monterey Park Police Department 350Z. That's right a true black/white police car that is now turbocharged.

Got to be quick with the shift..boost and rpm climb faster than the trans can shift and you can bump the rev limiter. More testing & pics to come...

Nice! I had a pic of that car on my desktop for a while back. Look forward to seeing more.

My Vortech SC'ed Z is doing the same thing. It just cant shift fast enough without hitting the rev limiter.

Have you had any trans problems?

Is the rev limiter raised? This solved some of the shifting problems on the early SC'd autos. I installed a VB and TC upgrade as well to prepare for a TT setup some day and I can tell a big difference on my NA car. The shifts are faster and more firm with practically no slipping.

Has anyone had a blown engine w/ Turbonetics? I too have an 5AT w/ just stock internals & would like to find out it's reliability for NA setup. What would the max boost be for a stock 5AT? Will it ruin my transmission?
Thanks!!!

No not yet. I have only had it installed for about 3 weeks now. I had it tuned when I first had the kit installed, but I am going next week to get more tuning done on it with a more experienced tuner in my area. After that, I will start running it a lot harder. Hopefully I wont have tranny problems for a while.

I have not had my rev limiter raised yet. I plan to in the future, but I dont have the funds at this time to do so. I would also like to get the VB upgrade done. As far as the VB on a SC'd auto, I have heard that you can still hit the rev limiter easily with this done and I have heard that you cant. So I guess only doing the upgrade will tell me whether it will happen or not.

The thing with the VB and TC upgrade is that they improve the quality of the shifting, but not when the tranny decides to shift, thus in full auto mode the only way to fix the issue is to raise the rev limiter. The VB and TC upgrades make the shifting faster, firmer and with less slippage.
