Default Koyo Radiator and APS kit?

I don't have an APS dealer within 10 hours of me, so my mods have thrown up little roadblocks that we've had to work our way through. I've posted about the wastegate actuator solution(at least I hope they work) and I had to buy longer sections of silicone hose to connect the intercooler.
The latest fitment issue is my Koyo radiator. The radiator is installed and the fan blades are hitting the intercooler pipe. Has anybody else had to replace the electric fans with low-profile ones? Any advice is appreciated

Thanks,

Bruce

You may have to go to a FAL fan or trim down the blades. You are probably the first to run the APS with the Koyo. You are the trail blazer my friend.

I have emails out to Enron Exec and Rob@z-car garage in the bay area. Rumor has it they may have preceded me on this issue. Maybe I should have gone with the Stillen radiator. I think it's thinner.

keep us updated... i've opted in to the APS ST group buy, but the intercooler looks basically the same as the TT ('course, one inlet, not two), but because my car sees a lot of track time (road course), i'm thinking i'll need a need a high cap radiator (and oil cooler).

post whatever you end up doing!

I have the Koyo Radiator and Rob @ zcargarage had to modify the fan to get it to work. It is not a direct bolt on or drop in. I think they had to cut notches in the fan blade. Call him and I'm sure he can lend some assistance. I can get pix but I don't know if they will have any evidence of what they did. But it does work with a lil modification.
All the FI people should be looking for some kind of vent next. The Radiator, Oil cooler and Thermostat help however there is no venting or cool air coming in which concerns me. That will probably be my next mod. Im just looking for a good and somewhat cheap solution.
Good luck...

How bout a vented CF hood. This and a Koyo radiator are my next two mods. Also I got a line on some ss solid pipe coolant pipes. protocav a member is going to be making all the coolant hoses out of SS solid piping similar to what the Supra guys do. I plan to buy a set from him shortly...

My typing wasn't accurate yesterday, a vented hood is what I meant. It needs a way to get rid of that hot air under the hood. If not for looks then adding security, I don't know exactly how hot its getting under there but im gonna hook up some thermocouplers and get a reading.

I have a vented hood, and you can definately see the heat imminating from the engine bay.

Everyone seems to be using the Koyo becuase they are dirty cheap. However, has anyone actually checked to see if coolant temps are actually coming down with these radiators?

Another Z owner is using a Stillen radiator, and running over 500whp and he tells me he never seems more than 185 degree coolant temp...even after repeated runs on the dyno. I usually see 200-220 after agressive pulls...and I am using the stock radiator.

I believe Charles is using the Koyo..and still seems very high coolant temps.

This is a good point. I have also been told that the Stillen radiators are a better fit with an intercooler mounted.

I, too, have read that the Stillen is thinner, and thus easier to fit with an I/C. However, since I already installed the Koyo, I'm trying to solve the fitment issue.
So far, it looks like we can trim the fan blades, or swap for FAL thinner fans. I'm calling Rob at Z-garage next. Thanks for the help guys.

Well if you are going to need to modify the fans might as well switch to FALs. They most likely have higher airflow fans that will fit in the stock location and that is always good.

I need to get a water temp guage added to monitor this. My next guage will be an oil temp I believe. Some say that is better to have then the water but I don't know. I want to remove the voltage meter and put the Oil temp in its place. That gauge is not connected to the other two.

We installed one on a customer car a couple of weeks ago with an APS TT kit. Tight fit but it went it pretty well. We moved a couple of hoses over. Fan's didn't touch. We had the motor out so that might be the reason for the easy fitment.

Technically the oil temp would be a more accurate indicator of engine temps because the oil will not heat up and cool off as rapidly as water will. I actually have both and have seen my oil temps in the 220-240 range during long drives depending. My water temp is all over the place though. It gets as high as 206 the fans kick on it goes back to 190 then after a while back up to 205 ish then back down...the oil temp is pretty consistent.

With a the low temp Nismo thermostat and lowergin the fans turn on set point to match , you prolley wouldn't be seeing the huge coolant temp swings. I've got the thermostat, just trying to find an east way to lower the OEM fan set point.

Tuan do yo have any idea as to how one could lower the OEM fan set point?
Do you know how it is controlled, is it via the ECU?

I know HKS makes a fan controller....It should be able to do what you want
