Default Built motor is finally going in!

For those of you that don't know back in Feb '05 I had a vortech installed on my G35. Three weeks after the vortech install I had to have more power so the car went back to the shop to swap the Vortech for a Greddy TT. While the car was on the dyno I bent a rod. Fast forward to today. It has been almost 4 months with out my car. Tomorrow my SGP built motor will rest in it's new home. Here's what I got done on the motor.

Block oil passages cleaned
Block redecked
Block Bored and Honed using a Torque Plate
Crank balanced
Crank journals polished
New Main and Rod bearings w/ceramic coating
Pauter Rods
ARP Rod Bolts
Wiseco Pistons .020 over(8.8:1)
Ceramic coating on Pistons
ARP Main Studs
ARP Head Studs
Heads oil passages cleaned
Heads redecked
Ported exhaust and intake runners
JWT Upgraded Cams
JWT HD Valve Springs
5 angle valve job
Valve Stem Heights set
Cold Clearance set
New Valve stem seals
New Nissan Head gaskets
New Nissan Oil Pump
New Nissan Cam seals

Along with my new motor I have samco hoses, pi-thon locks, koyo radiator, ATS twin carbon clutch, nismo thermostat, and an aquimist 1s WI system to be installed.

I would like to thank Kyle from SGP for the excellent customer service and building me a bad **** motor. Anyone that does not know chit about motors and is looking to build one, SGP is a great one stop shop. I must have emailed Kyle 100 questions along the way and he always responded in a timely manner. I am so happy with their work and service that after the motor is broken in I am going to ship the car to SGP so they can install and tune the HKS Vpro.

Here are some pictures. I will try to post some more as the install goes along. I won't have the car until sometime next week cause I am sending my rims to get the spokes powder coated in black. Since I sold my stockers the car will be on the lift until the rims come back.

What's your HP goal? With tuning you have the potential to be the baddest street Z/G out there right now!

What is the HP capability of that motor? That's the top one SGP sells right?

Thanks! Yes it is the top one SGP sells (at least the one on their website). My goal is only 500whp. I plan on having two boost settings. My low will be 10psi and my high will be whatever psi it takes to make 500whp. I think I should be able to hit 500whp with 12-14psi using the HKS Vpro. I believe Kyle told me the motor is good for 650whp. I pursposely bought RC 550's instead of 660's so I don't push it. If I ever get a itch up my **** to up the boost it will take more than just turning up the boost and re-tuning. After this I am done with the motor. All I need now is my suspension and body kit. I will get the suspension in a couple of months and the Top Secret Body kit is on order. I should get it in about 4 weeks.

No sleeves. I don't think it is needed for my goal of 500whp, but thinking back maybe I should have done it. Like they say there's never overkill when you build for FI.

P.S. Before mod's or with previous mod's
How many times had you taken the car to speed. ( 150 and above? )

When the car was n/a with CAI, test pipes, headers, and exhaust I took it to 130mph like 10 ten times. When I installed the vortech I took it to 145 twice. I never tried to go past 150 cause at the time I still had the speed limiter. I have since had it removed.

Plus you're the guy that sold the Vortech after three weeks, I'm betting you'll want more than 500whp in a couple of weeks!

I think I've only been 120 in my car. Top speed is dumb to me, I just like acceleration.

Yeah I know, but this time if I want more too bad. I got to draw a line somewhere. I have two things that will help me for going for more power.

1. My tuner is going to be about 1800 miles from me.
2. My injectors will not handle more than 575whp.

Top speed is dumb to me, I just like acceleration.
Me too. I used to drive a remote highway on the way to work and I got carried away a feel times. I usually don't drive faster than 80mph on the freeway. Although I usually go from 0-80mph pretty quick.

Default Suspension - Key

Understood:

My big thrill was taking the car in stock form, to speed.

Started with 120 for 6 or 7 times with about 7000 miles ( 2 oil changes ) early on.

Then I drove the car normal on 2 and 210 freeway until it had about 12,500 miles.

I then would get up at 5am to get in the car and each day on the same strip raise the car about 5 to 10 mph more. At one point I was displeased with the body roll and shock action on the stock 2003 ( early ) Struts.

I waited and got one of the first set of Koni Shocks, then Hotchkis sways and springs. ( I took the nasty Eibach's out - What a difference. )

I then could take the Glendale 2 to the West bound 210 at about 135 - 140
Straight line to speed. It's a sweeping left - three lanes under a freeway.

At about 15,000 miles to End of Story ( 19,000 ) - could go to 150 - 156 stock speed limiter. I documented the times at speed for 31 times - I have a ODB II monitor. This device is a $130 device that plugs into the ODB plug under the dash. From AutoZone.

The actual feel is at 157 when the engine does the stutering . It's no different than the 120 and above. The light poles just look like a picket fence.

Ha !

The suspension on this car was the difference. After the Koni's, Springs and Sways
I felt a lot more confident. I wasn't thinking the car was "on the verge" at 130 mph speed. There are a couple of draw backs with such a stiff suspension. But today the Tokico D's are out. They might be a better match than the Koni's

Cheers Amy -

P.S. The End of Life is one of the links in my Sig. About 19,000 miles.
Saving my Money for a GTR 3.2L or a 2007 350Z Ha! ( 25K so far - If my wife has the house remodeled - It will be a down payment. )

i love going high speeds...i agree with many of you...accelleration is one of the best thrills with these twin turboed z's...but i love getting up to 140 real quick and then let her wind down, that is definately fun.

(on a closed race course, of course)..haha

You know those wastegates will have to come off before you put the motor back in right? Unless you're installing it from underneith, then it may not present a problem.

on the greddy setup, the wastegates must be put on after the tranny in on (like in the pictures provided)...the motor w/ tranny w/ wastegates can go in (as we have done it twice with my motor)...we put the motor in from the front (top)...removed the front clip and the motor went right in (took maybe 45 minutes to get the motor in and tranny mounts/ motor mounts back in place

The car is on a lift and the motor is going in from underneath.

I get it now, I thought it was a clearance issue with the body of the car.

no, but let me tell ya...i put my turbos and wastegates on when building my motor...but hadn't bolted on the tranny yet...got ready to put the tranny on and the motor in..and then realized i had to take the wastegates off to get the bell housing to clear ...i took those wastegates off prolly 4 times before the motor went in!!! (had to take one of the turbos off to bolt on one of the motor mounts too

the good thing... i'm REALLY expereinced at taking off a 350z Greddy TT wastegate

How long did they have the engine?

Congrats! (BTW, I would have sleeved it, it would save you downtime later on *just in case* you ever crave more down the road (like you won't? ).

Seriously this is it. I have spent 4x the amount of money I ever intended to spend. I could have bought another G with the amount of money that has been spent on this car.
