Default To F/I or not to F/I that is the question!!

Well I took delivery of my new APS kit today. (Thanks Forged Internals!)

Now here is the delimia...

I'm running low on $$$. However I don't want to wait any longer!!!! I have rod/pistons/etc on the way in... But not enough free cash to get the maching and installtion done till about November or December!!!

What do you guys think I should do?

A) Install the TT kit this weekend... Wait on the Forged parts until I've got the cash.
B) Do nothing until I've got the cash, and do it all at once.
C) Cry and wimper.
D) Stand on street corners holding a sign. "Need money for TT operation! Please help!"

I vote (B). Best to wait and build motor first, then install APS kit. It will save you $ later. If you must install now, look for another VQ motor and build that, then swap later.

I'm planning on doing the TT install myself... The engine pull... and several other things.

So B will save me a TON of time/blood/sweat. But not in the much of $$$.

I'm torn...

Well, since you are pulling the engine regardless, you could go either way with it.

You live in the rainy Pacific NW, and if it was me...I would install the TT kit now, and then drive that thing over the sunny and relatively dry time period you are enjoying right now. I lived in Seattle for 4 years so I know what you are going through.

Then, when the non-stop drizzle begins in Oct, you can pull the motor a second time and do the rebuild.

Glad I could be of help!! Pics of the turbo kit please.

B. Turn up the boost vigilantly when you get the money and you can be the first to see what a stock VQ can do.

It's very tempting to do just that...

But I don't want to damage the sleeves... Thats the one thing I don't want to replace...

We already know what the stock can really hold. It about 12 psi daily routine beatdown. After 12 its gonna kaboom.....clank , clank, clank on you.

How much more labor are you looking at when you build up your engine with the turbo already in place, as opposed to building the engine before the turbo is installed?

I agree with Sharif@forged. That's what I would do.

Never know...option D is a good idea too...

Insted of TT install...get a sign that says that you are looking to fix your car so you can drive old people to their doctor appointments.

Watch the cizzash flow in!!

I say D. Only loose the sign, and go to the ***** section and stand on that street.

Or if you dont want to do that, id say do what Sharif told you, install now, enjoy your car now and turn up the boost to atleast 10. Then when the rainy season comes, tear down and rebuild the engine.

I'm doing it all at once.
I've been buying and selling parts close to 5-6 months all for the ultimate build.
My G has been down for over 2 months.
I didn't have enough money when I tore the motor out & gave it to the machine shop but by the time he's done I will.
Most machine shops don't make you pay up front. So if you know you'll have enough money by 2-4 months, I'd say rip it out!
As for me, everything is going as planned. The block is being bored/honed as I type, & the heads will be ported & polished next week. Then the motor re-asembled the week after the heads are completed.
Meanwhile, I have installed the fuel pump assembly & piggy-back. I still have plenty of time before I get my motor back for the installation of the intercooler, new tranny cooler, oil cooler, intercooler sprayer/purge,remote bottle opener, nav tuner, hks camp(all sensors digitally displayed on my nav),and all new brakes with SS braided lines.
Then I have to put the motor back in!
Anyways, you get it. Plan waaaay ahead.
Good luck bro.

Wes

Id install it, and keep your boost in check and make sure your tuning is performed by a competant tuner. If it is, you likely wont ever need to swap internals. From there, I'd pick up a spare shortblock, and build the motor out of the car. Since you already have rods and pistons bought and paid for, it will allow you to take your time, or give your machinist time (which they all need - they are all slow). Should the need then arise, you'll have a built shortblock ready to go in, which can be done in a weekend
