Cold start is getting tougher to meet primarily since the hotside impeller blocks heat from getting to the first stage CATs. However; there is a pretty easy way to resolve this conundrum , which most of the kit builders haven't embarked upon as of yet. By replaceing the "single port" Waste gate actuator with a "dual port" version ( aka a can with a nipple on either side of the diagram), the Wastegate can be held open during the cold start cycle, thus allowing the of combustion heat ot bypass the impeller and more rapidly heat the CATs. Without employing methods such as this , simply "tweaking" the piggyback will only get them just to the hairy edge of passing.

I just called JWT again today. More bad news. Now Ben told me to try calling back in November for this kit. This is getting totally ridiculous now. I told him there are a lot of people out there that don't care about the CARB approval and people can't wait any longer for this kit. He claims they have the kits all ready in their warehouse and they still want to wait for CARB. He mentioned again that if it takes much longer that a tuner kit will be released without the CARB exemption but he's been saying that for a year now too. I'm very pissed and might now consider a different kit. I told him everytime I call him he tells me to call back in 2 months. I've been doing that for the past year and a half now. He promised me 2 months ago that the end of September will be the last we'll have to wait. I also mentioned that VRT has been running their kit and he confirmed this and said they have been testing it but it's not for sale through them. I'm fed up, but I'm scared to go APS TT now since there are too many people with smoking issues.

If you go with the APS, make sure it's installed and tuned by an APS/Unichip dealer. If you do that, you'll be fine, and if it smokes, it's on them to fix it. IMO there's no TT kit that's worth waiting a year and a half for. Just get the APS, you won't be sorry. Or PE, or Greddy, just get SOMETHING!

Im in San Diego, 20mins.from JWT, and was very interested in this kit as well. From talking with them and other people, Im betting they dont get the carb eo#. When and if they release a tuner kit only, not sure if thats worth $7K. APS TT was top on my list, but reading about the smoking issue some were getting and Peter stating the TT kit should past carb testing, its unlikely. APS TT is still a great kit, best to have an aps dealer install their kit. I decided to just go with something different. Anyways I have 5yrs.before any smog test.

Patience is one thing, the turbo never coming out because it will never pass carb cert is another... Time to just release the kit that they have in carb cert, and if it passes carb cert. then it'll be ok to keep their kit in our cars after 5 years. If not, oh well big deal not like everyone else running TT won't have the same smog check problems in 5 years.

I have an APS TT kit and have never had any smoking issues. Maybe I'm just lucky.

There is no reason for it not to pass CARB it's just a lengthy process. You're dealing with the government here...look how horribly they handled an emergency...now translate that into something day to day and you know why it's taking so long...

You're not lucky. The amount of people having the smoke issues with APS are so fractional and about 95% of those did self installs...Most APS TT's worked close to perfect and continue to do so.
And the bottomline is there are no guarantees with any kit that you won't run into some issues.

I called JWT today and spoke to Ben. Now he's saying it could be a few more months. This is ridiculous. I asked him about the tuner kit and he said when they get the CARB they may release that. I thought the purpose of selling a tuner kit was that it's not CARB legal and they will release the kit early as a tuner? I'm really tired of waiting for this kit.

I say screw them. Man you've been waiting forever. Pick your choice of any available FI kit, and have fun with your G.
