Vortech pulley swap question
Planning to replace the 3.33 with the 3.12. The rpm increase is roughly 7% (3.33/3.12). The question is will the tq levels increase by roughly the same percent?. Thinking that if everything is linear (blower output/exhaust/A/F ratio, etc.) than the power level should increase accordingly.. Thoughts please..
I wish the only tuner for the R4 Software wasn't 4 hours away from me.. That's a long trip to drive on a new pulley, new belt and not boost much at all because the car isn't tuned. All for the sake of more HPs.
your not talking about huge gains when going from the 3.33 to the 3.12 . And the boost will come on slightly faster . Most of the hp will be seen up top . Driving 4 hours shouldnt be a problem as long as you dont go to redline with it and just keep an eye on your A/F
When I did the swap, i had the AAM ecu reflash done at the same time and the results were incredible. I gained 44rhp peak and also 60lb-tq increase at 4krpm. I posted the results a long time ago with hp/tq increases at each rpm level. Definitely spools up faster, very noticeable. Of course, the reflash and tuning was what really made the difference.

Why won't the gain be linear and accross the rpm range. what's non linear about the set up that prevents a 7% increase in gains?? Does the blower go outside it's efficiency range or become less efficient ?? Anyone with real data?

the gain will be linear and across the rpm range , but it will not be huge . The biggest gain will be above the top psi you are running now . I dont think you will see gains like Aaron has stated unless you aren't tuned now . A good tune and the pulley may net you 40 to 50 whp . The 60 ft trq. I think maybe a little over stated . Think I gained 20trq
Reviewing some verbal data Vortech provided for the blower it's Max efficiency occurs at 45,000rpm. The 3.12 pulley at an engine rpm of 6800 spins the blower at 45,000 rpm..At 7100 rpm (if ECU is flashed) the 3.12 spins the blower at 47,000rpm just over Max efficiency..So to answer my own question if operating below or at 6800 engine rpm the gains should be linear (approx. 7%) at all engine rpm's and above 6800 the gains will be less than 7%..
