The VQ is great motor anyways. Not worth swaping out a great motor for another great motor(The RB is a bit greater )..Is it? But if you got money..Why not?

I have a friend that has done a LOT of swaps and hes beggin me to do it! I dunno hes says that motor is bulletproof! But I just dunno yet.

the only reason to do an engine swap is when you are changing out a sh*t motor for a good one. the VQ is not a sh*t motor. besides someone did an RB swap on the 350z a couple of years ago. it was a ton of fab. not worth it IMO.

If you spend the same amount of money on the VQ you WILL be rewarded. But that being said if you don't care what you are spending (And I mean REALLY don't care. You're looking at TENS of thousands of dollars.)... then spend it on an engine and everything you can possibly do (which is endless btw). Personally I think if you are seriously able to do an engine swap build you should be a good samaritan. Build your VQ so that we can all bask in the gained knowledge of yet another insanely budgeted Zizzel.

I will say this though. If I saw your Z and you popped your hood and had a RB26 rocking in there all polished and built, I'd claim you were mad, but my god I respect that kind of madness.

I have both engines; G35/ Vq35"TT" and a 95' 240sx with Rb26dett. Believe me stick with the VQ. Looking for parts for the Rb is not easy and anyways 3.5L Vs. 2.6L.

steve... while my last car was getting the turbo kit fabbed, there was a 350z getting an RB26 fitted and it was just silly how much work had to be done. Be prepared for a wiring nightmare, as well as some crazy customization and fabrication. Just build a seperate motor, chrome/polish the entire thing and slap a turbo kit it.. you will rack up all the show points you can handle that way; swapping the motor isn't worth the time or money.

rb26dett is pretty bulletproof since it comes from the factory designed for twin turbos. People say how weak the vq's are b/c they were getting blown but the stock vq wasn't designed for FI. With all these new internals available for the VQ I would just go the build up route if I had the choice. It seems every built VQ is putting down 500 at the wheels for less than $30k... I assume a rb26dett is about $5k but I have no idea how much you will have to spend to get that up to 500hp at the wheels not to mention how many hours of labor to get everything working and even if you can get it working how reliable will the entire set up be compared to a vq that is designed for that car.
