how to address timing i'm i thinking over kill?

Well i have been reading all day, I'm getting ready to do a pump and a fuel return system. As far as the timing goes I was looking in to the J&S safegaurd and the technosquare reflash. Would i be ok with just doing a J&S? I'm on the Greddy TT kit currently running 6 psi. I would really like to go to about 7-9psi completely safe. I understand to that its all the timing (besides the fuel). If i put the J&S on put on the dyno with a good tuner could they pull enough timing out to make it safe for 7-9psi? Thanks guys. Again i have search and researched.

or would i be better off with just the Greddy TT reflash and let that control my fuel and timing and don't rely on the e-manage?

I think thhere was one or two motors that went pop with the J&S if I recall. And the J&S burns up coils..Not a good unit IMO, I dumped mine..

You can go either way. If you want to set it to one setting and keep it at that, then you can go with the reflash. However, if you plan on setting it at lets say 7 psi now and you know you might want to increase boost later on, then the J&S would be the better way to go, because this way you can tune it localy, and won't have to send your ecu for another reflash.

The reflash seems like a good way to go, but I would only do it if there was a local place that could do it. Sometimes the flash is not perfect, so you have to send it back and forth a few times.

Your other option is to go with the Greddy Ignition/Timing harness. It only costs $40 and it does the job for pulling the timing. The only other thing you need to buy with it are some diodes, which you can buy at radio shack for only few bucks. Its not as precise as the J&S, but it does the job and keeps you safe.

I might have to do that with the harness and diodes.. Have you done this with yours? Is there a write up on it? Sorry for all the questions.

Yes, I'm running with the harness and the diodes. I was originally planning on going with the J&S safeguard or the reflash, but I didn't want to take the chance of having to send the ecu back and forth, and I wanted to be able to tune it localy. So that eliminated the reflash choice... and then since I am only planning on running about 8 psi or so for now, the safeguard is not really that neccessary. Its still a good thing to have, but at only 8 psi the harness can do the job just as well. I'd suggest the J&S if you were going for like 10 psi or more...

I think there was a write up a somewhere a long time ago, but I'm not sure if it was on this forum.

can you run 7 to 9 psi. without retarding timing on a single turbo set up?

8psi has damaged a lot of motors without proper ignition timing mapping. Are you also planning to install a return fuel system.

I like the J&S as as safeguard item, but ignition timing really needs to be mapped against trq, and not just boost/RPM. For this, the Greddy ignition timing harness is a good solution. You will still need a local tuner to dial everything in.

That said, if you know you plan to stay at a certain boost level, than a TS reflash would also be a good solution.

But let me know what type of fuel system you plan to run, as the stock 350Z fuel system is not suitable for safe higher boost operation.
