Default Post your Install Times~

I think it would be a good idea to post your install times / kit to ensure shops aren't overcharging them...

ie. if your shop said it took 35hrs to install a turbonetics ST. you'll have this source to tell them it should've taken them 20hrs max!

so if you'd like to post

FI Kit Type: i.e. Greddy Twin Turbo
Install Time: Hardware install / Tunning
Other Accessories: Gauges, Exhaust, etc.
Shop (optional):

Thank You!

Too bad many shops do not charge actual time. I guess this can be good and bad. I mean.. it can be dead obvious when someone is ripping you off.. But.. you can expect to pay a little bit more if a shop charges flat rate and will charge you the set price.. no matter how fast they did it..

but having a post like this will give us a general idea of how much time it should take for specific kits!

i.e. a shop says it took them 40hrs to do your turbonetics you can simply tell them to shove it because all the other shops took no more than 20hrs. I find a lot of shops make a big deal out of 350zs and try to rip us off.

If you have to find out that 40 hours is alot for a turbonetics kit than you shouldn't be turbo-ing in the first place. Research before you start throwing down the cash.

I think the Turbonetics is roughly a 8-12 hour job.

Ive spoken with 2 well known shops and both have told me anything under 11-12 hours for a Turbonetics kit would be rushing it. I was quoted around 1K for the install and 12-14 hours labor. Im doing it myself, I was just curious what people where charging....

I've seen the Greddy w/ Intercooler install anywhere between 45 - 70hrs. The 70hr one was due to the shop charging a flat fee . . . plus, they installed the profec e01, port matched the exhaust manifolds, and had a kit with several missing / mismatched parts (didn't go smoothly). Nevertheless, they took their time.

Generally with the Greddy TT I have heard between 50-60 hrs. Personally installing it myself on jackstands in my garage with little help, I did it in right at 60-65 hrs.

(APS TT)Well Im in the middle of mine right now. So far Ive had 2hours of help from a buddy. Ive put about 10 hours in so far. Fuel pump is done, motor and tranny is out, Turbo's oil lines, and water lines are done. Im guessing about 10 more hours.

APS TT on G35 coupe. Installed in about 100 hours, taking my time to do it right, plus I had gauges and did some extra stuff like wrapping all the wiring and the tubes and lines, etc. I did it all on jack stands in my garage using common mechanics tools, engine still in the car. I could probably do it in about 60 hours now that I know what I'm doing... Been going on strong for 5000+ miles.

Isn't your car out yet? I wanted to stop by the shop to have a look yesterday but didn't have the time. Maybe tomorrow if it's still there. Good luck.

Later,

mine took a lot of time, but actual hours working on the car was not bad. yanked the motor, rebuild, major ported heads and intake with smoothed out and matched greddy manifolds, building the fuel system, and emanage ultimate, and well all the other crap i have in my sig and little stuff. think i am around 120-130hrs. the main trick is to make sure and get all your parts lined up first, cause i was loosing weeks on end with faulty parts from arp and others. made it take a couple months because of that.
no doubt in my mind the same setup would take about 20 hours less the second round, yes on jackstands too, hahaha.

40 hrs is a lot for a turbonetics kit. Paul, my car isn't out yet... they're "promising" for friday.

i just think this would be a good thread to have a general install time guidline (no tunning / extra work) that people can have when a shop says something like "this was a complex kit so it took me 40 hrs to install" when it took 15 other shops 15 hours. catch my drift?

Turboneics kit is 15-19 hours max. Then throw in about 3 hours to install some various gauges, a boost controller, etc.

30+ hours for the Turbonetics kit is far too much.

We can do the Greddy and APS kits in that amount of time.

Default Vortech SC

My car was the first Vortech install that my local guy ever did.

Total hours charged was 32 which brakes down as follows:

7 hours of tuning on a Mustang Dyno.

4 hours for a super clean install on the A pillar of the A/F & Boost gauges.

21 hours of labor for the super charger.

All in all I think it was fair and I'm happy with the results.

Turbonetics in about 19 hours with gauges. The only difficulty with the kit is it's such a tight squeeze. A big plus is learning where to situate all of the clamp bolts so you can get to them easily.
