Yes...faster spool up...especially for larger turbos

real ball bearing turbos are very much worth the money. Quicker spool up, means more useable power within your RPM range, which = a faster car.
I would highly recomend it.

what kind/size turbo are you looking at? What is the power goal and setup? Is this a customer turbo kit, or are you comparing some off the shelf kits.

Thats great. Without question, a dual BB setup like the Garrett GT series is a technologically superior product to a conventional Mits TD-05 turbocharger. But theory and pratical application can be very different. There are benefits to the water cooled BB setup, and I am not disputing those. Things like improved cooling, lubrication, and turbocharger longevity are all improved.

Oftentimes, "spool time" as people refer to it, is more a function of exhaust manifold design, exhaust system backpressure, and a proper boost controller...as boost controllers keep the wastegate closed as boost builds. I have driven the APS TT kits vs. the stock Greddy kit, and my seat of the pants impress is that spool up was comparable between the two.

It is far more important to properly match the turbocharger size and design, to your intended applications. But if given two perfectly match turbochargers, I would take the BB version easily. I just want people to know there are other factors involved in your decision.

Best of luck..let me know if I can help

Have you considered the SFR twin turbo system? I believe the off-the-shelf setup comes with 60-1 hifi's but I think they can customize it to your needs.

I agree with Sharif .. (how can I not haha)

in a lot of cases, people go crazy about ball bearing and spend tons of extra money, which is well worth if you know what you're doing.

If you're already running a restrictive exhaust and a crappy manifold design, ball bearing is definitely not worth it.

Now, if you have the perfect straight through exhaust, an excellent manifold, a matched turbocharger size to your displacement etc then you will see huge benefits by changing nothing but internals of the turbo to real ball bearing. Better spool up, better midrange AND better top end.

But as I said, in a lot of cases, there are other areas that are just as important if not more that you can improve for possibly cheaper and easier before considering ball bearing. The same exact turbo could cost you nearly twice as much in ball bearing form and should not be up on your priority list unless you have the other components I mentioned adequate for the performance levels you're looking for.

As far as I know, the AEM Engine Management System is still in R&D for the 350Z. If you do use the Universal application EMS, you will most likely (I believe it is 100%) have to switch to throttle-by-cable.
