Just trying to get an idea of what's involved and the costs associated with it. I don't want to bug a local dealer when I'm months away from doing anything. So, when you have your FI system done, what was upgraded/changed and what kind of final cost did you have? I'm looking specifically at the Turbonetics kit.

100 threads on it . Do a search . But depends greatly on what type FI , gauges ,and any other uprades , What your shop charges for the install . Any where from 6 or 7 grand to 30 thousand can be spent

 

I was thinking my choices would range 6-7k out the door.

I'm interested in hearing personal examples from forum members.

 

My Vortech was around 7 grand for the whole package...kit, gauges ,and install and tune for all of it .

 

kit= ~4200-4800
Install with gauges ~1000-1200
Pillar= $50
Gauges ~350-1000

 

It all depends on what you are wanting. Since you say 6-7 thousand I would say TT is not in the cards unless you are installing yourself.

 

As stated originally, I'm looking at a turbonetics kit. So I would think 7k is the roof for that kit. How many of you guys financed that expense? It's tough to drop that kind of cash down on your ride, even for a turbo kit.

 

7k should do it, remember the fudge factor. Something WILL come up, unexpectedly, and end up costing you more money. Mr Murphy is always around the corner. I planned on staying with only the supercharger when I started out. Then I needed to upgrade the fuel system because my injectors were maxing out at the top end. Now, I have a lot of underhood heat, hello new radiator and oil cooler. I wanted to get a proper tune and be able to have it done more than once at a time like the re-flash, meet Mr. Emanage Ultimate...You get the point. Be prepared to spend a lot more than you think. Another thought, do not go FI, unless you have enough money in reserve to rebuild your engine. It is VERY possible, no matter the kit or the tune, it can happen.

 

I spent close to 7K for my ATI install with gauges and injectors. Good luck and have fun.

Snuck a vortech in the 350 for just a hair over 5k including install for everything and tuned, but i took some chances by getting a used kit.... but i trusted my fellow forum members haha. However like Badmonkey said now im about to get bigger fuel injectors and i am going to need a new clutch, and because of the heat issue im going to try a vented hood before i go with the oil cooler and radiator...

 

right, after that upgrade the suspension, gauges, exhuast, labor... about 10G .

 

How many of you are dropping all of that down as cash?

 

Little by little, I have not added it all up. I really don't want too!

 

I figured a lot of people have to be financing that cost. I mean, that's a good amount of money we're talking about.

 

Seeing these numbers makes me feel a little better about spending $12k on a built engine, i'm more than half way there

 

adding F/I to an N/A car is a big commitment.. make sure you have deep pockets.. because like Badmonkey says, "something WILL come up "... It's the gift that keeps on giving..

Its a lot of cash to put up at once, and i dont think people are going to let you finance it, i recomend doing it step by step.. first just buy the kit........ wait a couple of months and drool over it until you cant wait any more then have it installed......once you get used to the power after a couple of more months go for the extras that you dont NEED but can use such as clutch, fuel system ect...... Doing it in steps eases the pain a little...but then its like everytime you make your money back your spending it again.... but if you love your car its more then worth it when a corvette or high end car pulls next to you and you can stick side by side with it or even pull past them... thats priceless

 

Yeah, I might just buy the kit, then the gauges, then the EU and then have it installed. Not sure about that yet, still looking over options.

 

This might well be a 5 year or more process.
