Default Whats needed to put it back together?

Just ordered my pistons, rods, and stud kit from Forged Internals. Can you guys tell me all the different seals and bearings you are replacing when assembling your engines? Which ones are nessasary and which are optional? Also I was going to order them from the local Nissan Dealer, but I'm sure someone knows a much cheaper place I can get everything. Thanks

you'll also have to look at your rod bearings to see if they match up with your new forged rods... if you're lucky (like I somehow managed *knock on wood*) you won't need any new ones... otherwise -- the performance nissan website has a complete OEM catalog online... just get the right sizes from your machinist/engine builder.

There is the full rebuild gasket kit available from Nissan that has everything you need in terms of head gaskets, seals, etc. With a full rebuild new bearings should be mandatory IMO.....mains and rods. Main bearings are easy because you can usually replace them with the same colours that come out. Rod bearings will have to be sized to the new rods. As Machupo said, you can try the bearings that came out of the stock rods and you might get lucky. You can just order those same colours again as well if this is the case. Right now there are no bearing sets available except the factory ones from Nissan. Courtesy or Performance Nissan are 2 good dealers to get OEM parts from. If you spend enough or have a friend at the dealer you can probably swing 15-20% off list prices. Still expensive but your options are limited...right now anyway.

also, you may want to seriously think about cams at this point too. cost ALOT more in labor to do later. i have the nismo cams and they were basically a drop in and did not need to change any of the lash caps. so install price would be $0 when motor is going back together. something to think about if you ever decide you want to up the power later, as most of us power hungry folk want to do ,lol.

and if you're doing cams, you might as well do a gasket-match port&polish, 5 way cut, etc...

All I can think about is how much cheaper it would be to do everything now since the motors out, but I really don't have the money. I really shouldn't be spending what I am now.
Here's the story. I purchased the Turbonetics kit in July, and since I really didn't have too much extra money to spend I put the kit on myself. During the install my Esprit front bumper fell from the table I had it on while I was at work and got all scratched up. So when I was done putting the turbo on, I sent my aftermarket bumper to the paint shop and put my OEM back on. I didn't put the plastic guards or fender wells back in so I could easily check for any leaks or loose bolts I had missed. I remember I ran over a few small branches in the road and I think that might have caused it; I was driving normal and then decided to pass I car that was going too slow for me .
I looked down at my boost gauge as I was passing the other car and seen it hit 8psi......10psi.......by the time I reacted and let off the throttle I seen 11psi. It just so happened as I let off the gas I was comming up to an area of road construction. At this point I'm a little freaked, so I turned my radio and A/C off and rolled my windows down. As soon as I touched the trottle to pull away from the construction area I head the sound.....tink, tink, tink, tink, tink. I pulled over and looked under the hood thinking at first maybe something was just loose and was tapping, boy it was tapping alright. I turned around and drove real slow at very low RPMs back home just in case. Sure enough it was the hose that was going to the wastegate wasn't connected. I did a couple of test to see if it was something I could fix, but in the end I only realized that it was coming from the bottom-end. I put the car on a roll-back and got it to a shop. When we finnally got the engine out of the engine bay we found the problem. A bent rod! Just one and it was just bent; no damage anywhere else. I finnally sucked it up and said I can't just replace that one rod and put it back in. Besides I didn't want something like this to happen again. So a few days ago I ordered some Arias pistons, Eagle rods, and a APR head and main stud kit. As you guys can see, with the bumper being repainted, the internals I bought, the machine work I have to have, and the labor I'm going to be charged, I'm broke. So right now I stand trying to find out the other small things I have to have to get the engine sealed properly.

Jason,
Glad to see you are building her. If you go to Performance Nissan then navigate through a few other links, you end up w/ this:

Engine Breakdown

$212.35 for rebuild gasket kit (#10101CD325)

$10.83 x2 for manifold to exhaust gasket (#20813AL500)

Then #25 are rod bearings (I don't know what the different grades are)

#26 the main bearing? I can't tell what it belongs to...did you get them to get prices from the Nissan guy that frequents their shop? When are your parts from Sharif supposed to show up?

Just think, she is getting closer and closer to being completed. Talk to you later.

well, if the budget is too tight to do the top half of the engine, i'd just go with the gasket rebuild kit and get with your machinist to find the right bearings... then save up and to the top half of the engine at some later time

Yeah Machup, I would love to start adding to the head but I guess it's going to have to wait. Once the engine's back in, I'm going to drive it back home with the Turbonetics reflash. Sharif said it should be good to drive with out new maps, it'll probably just run a little rich. I'll put it on the dyno and check the A/f first. I'm just going to have to wait a little longer to buy the eManage and get it tuned. I guess the only question I have now is how much hp and at what boost will I be able to run with the new internals and a proper tune?

Hey Hal, he said that everything should get to me around Wed. or Thur so let me know if you want to come with and take a couple of pics; and thanks for the info.

Hey for us Bench Racers - Allthough you are in good hands with Sharif.. Let us know what your previous and current configuration is.. The Search Function on this site is not alway's the easiest..

A little recap on this forum link would be informative..

Cheers Amy -

Nismo Japan have some competition bearings for the VQ35, one TT350z here in Australia used them in his buildup and I know of another TT350z here who used King engine bearings, not sure if they were custom or not, but they should be able to remake. Adam@Z1 can probabally get the Nismo ones.
