Does any have pics of both pistons ? Wanting to know the differences and if they look any different from one to the other . I hear they are made with different metal types . What would be the difference there from on metal to the next ?

They are all similar but Arias does have a heavier duty version with thicker ring lands for high boost applications. Sharif sells them on forgedinternals.com.

Pistons are usually made with a high or low silicon content. The amount of silicon affects the rate of expansion in the piston at engine operating temperatures. Typically most forged pistons do not expand alot until they get some heat in them. This is usually referred to as piston slap or clatter when the motor is first started. As the motor heats up the sound goes away.

i agree with 356gear. i went with arias cause they have been around a long time and they do pistons for almost any motor you can think of and had not heard of cp before. but the arias heavy duty is a whole nother story. way thicker ring lands to help sustain detonation.

I have the normal Arias pistons right now and SGP is going to put in CP pistons when they re-do my motor in a few weeks . Was just wondering about the difference in the two

I have heard of a few guys using CP with good results. The Arias tend to be a little on the noisy side at start up vs the CP.

MIne are much more than alittle noisy . Unless its above 85 90 degree's I can still hear them even after a full warm up . thats why they are re-doing the motor for me . I have a pic of the Arias...any one got a close up of the CP's ?

Honestly on paper , if the cylinders are clearanced properly the Arias (high si versions) should be even quieter than an equivalent low si version (such as CP). Due to the lower rate of expansion on Hi Si forged pistons the wall clearance can be closed up more and hence quieter. A custom ~.020 overbore is recommended to get the clearance as tight as possible. If you used a "stock bore" , then that is most likely why yours are noisey.

I've heard both Arias(hi Si) and CP(lo Si) and both were pretty quiet even when cold, but then again they were both .02 overbores and clearanced according to spec and bored with a TQ plate.

Just a side note the CP crown is a superior design to the shelf Arias "simple dish", IMO.

Yes they were the pistons I bought from you . And Kyle called and told me this [ I didnt know about the stock bore ] and said they would work on a very low mile block . Just cleaning up the cyl. walls would be okay . Im sure they are within spec clearance , but on the out side edge of spec . So Mark said he would re-do the block for me , including coating them....cool guy.

Wow, those Carrillo rods are "beefy".

Hey Steve, are those the stock wrist pins?
I have the CP pistons 10.0:1 with pro-pins.The pro-pins are about twice as thick as yours. I don't know how much difference they make but I know they can take more pounding. I guess it might just be "overkill" but something for others to consider.
Also, the rings seem pretty "beefy" compared to the stock. I wouldn't be able to compare them to Arias but they're probably pretty close in strength.

Another note: For either piston, a thermal barrier coating could be used(not necessary). My machine shop has torn apart quite a few motors with the thermal barriers applied. He said the coating actually lasts quite a while(10-50k miles) with no flaking. Eventually it burns off pretty evenly.

I've only heard one 350Z with CP pistons & they were quiet, just like stock.

Yea those rods are ready for 1000+ (said Carrillo)
and those wrist pins came with the piston set (not extreme duty one)
