Default Cooling Mist water injection....

Since I am pretty much on the brink of installing alot of parts on my car and running more boost, I started seriously looking at different water injection systems (Aquamist and Cooling Mist in particular) to make my engine less likely to detonate.

Aquamist seems to be the best system out there, but its price tag is substantially higher (~$550 for their cheapest beginner system) than cooling mist (starting at $200 and goes up to about $600).

I like the cooling mist systems alot, because they are a fairly simple design (100-150psi pump actuated by a set boost point 1-25psi) and they can be customized with all sorts of little gadgets if you like (clogged nozzle sensor, etc.)

I am basically looking for input on two things...

A) What you guys opinions are of W/I in general and how well it would work on our cars...

and

B) What do you think of the Cooling Mist systems ( www.coolingmist.com ) specifically and which system of their's should be purchased for the Z (single stage or dual stage)..

Just trying to get thoughts brewing on a way to possibly make our engines more resistant to detonation (specifically us FI members on the stock block)

The Cooling mist system looks interesting.....sounds like it directly moisturizes/cools the airstream into the intake....I like the concept. I was looking through the site and noticed that they recommended a dual nozzle setup for the 300TT(one nozzle for each Turbo?).
Following quote from Coolingmist.......
"300Z we recomend the 150 psi dual nozzle setup rather than the dual stage. As far as nitrouse, we have many customers that run both NOS and our kits. Thanks!"

002-M-P, Gurgen, have either of you compared this system to the STI system (that cools the airflow OVER the intercooler) for comparable gains?

Bigbri, how many nozzles does your aquamist have?

The system on the STi is just an intercooler sprayer. As far as I knwo it just sprays a water or water/alcohol mix on the intercooler, which I guess works alright, but for the full effect of i/c sprayer you should go with a N2O or CO2 sprayer, much colder.

water injection is a bit different however and much more effective.

Can you also tell us some specs on which cooling mist kit you went with and how long you have been running it?

Another alternative from these guys.
The Stage two setup has a well packaged "sloped" controller
and a 220psi pump option.

I used a homemade version on my Supra when I was boosting the hell out of the stock twins. I was running a 50/50 mix of distilled water & meth and it really reduced detonation and allowed for a little more advance in timing with out using race gas. I do plan to use the system again on the Z when I get around to boosting the car. If you were to couple this system with the use of race gas and a solid tune I don't see why you wouldn't be able to boost pretty high on the stock block.

The guy from coolingmist is local here and very cool, I've called him about issues with my water injection kit that I didnt even buy from him and he was totally helpful.. when I get the extra funds I'll probably make the switch to a cooling mist kit.

When my water injection was installed my EGT's never went over 750 degrees celsius, and that is from constant boosting and no airflow to the intercooler during the summer.

Can you hear the AM pump when operateing (buzzing etc.).
So with dual AM nozzles what flows did you go with?
