Default aps st no oil pressure

got everything on the car, resolved a fuel pump not running issue (positive side pin for pump was bent on pump assembly), and got the car started. waited about 20 seconds for oil pressure to show, but none to be had.

i undid the turbo feed line at the check valve, and no oil there. found a thread on 350zmotoring and confirmed the check valve is oriented properly. to be clear, from it looks like this:

oil pressure sensor 0---------block
|
/ \
0 check valve
|
----oil feed line

i'm about to pull the pan off to see what i could have done, but can't really figure out what it could be.

any suggestions?

ahm

edit - stupid thing is killing my ascaii art suffice to say, the check valve is correct. any other suggestions?

maybe something has clogged the check valve, the hole is kinda small. undo the line coming off the check valve and see if oil leaks out, that is easier than removing the pan. actually removing the pan wont help you.

we did pull the line off the check valve - no oil whatsoever. the pressure sensor is 'before' the check valve though, so i don't think the check valve is the problem.

the reason for pulling the pan is to make sure the pickup extension and pickup itself are tight. if they're loose, it won't be able to draw the oil up. not sure what else to do...

any other thoughts?

well, if the oil pickup wasnt right your engine would be toast, maybe not if you didnt let the car run long. i wonder if a piece of silicone gasket maker got lodged in the sending unit part. its gotta be something right there between the T-piece, and check valve. i remember somebody else got a bad check valve, maybe it was Joepharm on 350zmotoring. somebody ditched it for an electronic check valve.

got it. the zinc/brass colored oil pickup spacer was on backwards, and was fouling on something, so it wasn't seated against the block. flipped it around, remounted the pickup and oil pan and just fired it. oil pressure is good

thanks for the help!

no kidding. thankfully, i didn't ASSume the sensor was wrong. that would have been an expensive DOH!

got it running. two issues. it seems like its missing a cylinder. no afterfire or rich smell from the exhaust, so i'm guessing an injector isn't working. second is that i took it up and down the street, and when shifting, the BOV doesn't seem to be working. i hear a quiet pop-pop-pop noise. sounds like a quiet version of WRC anti-lag, which would be bad don't want to eat my turbo.

what really stinks is that i'm away on business for a week, and won't be able to work on it until next weekend. ARGGGG!

Today I drove in city conditions for the first time, the motor is built and I'm on regular oil to break it in. At idle (car in neutral/stoplights), I'm around 0 PSI, when I start to accelerate I'm around 40-60 PSI. Normal? Also, I'm hardly boosting. A/C wasn't on, since the outside temp was around 65 degrees. thanks,

Generally engines have a hot minimum oil pressure of 10-15 psi with brand new oil and filter at idle rpm! Below standard operating temperature the oil pressure can be 2,3, times the minimum depending upon oil temperature at startup.
