Wouldn't consider the IS350? That's the Lexxus I'm drooling over right now. I honestly think Nissan has a chance at losing their perennial spot on the Ward's Auto "10 Best Engine" list because of the Toyota 3.5, which is smoother than the VQ and makes more torque.

 

I was looking at that....very nice, but if I sell, no more cars for me that have even the slightest hint of being a sports car.

 

did the ringlands blow up while under boost?

I'm not so sure I'll ever go TT, too much power for me

 

Just did a compression test and the results are good.

1. 125

3. 110
4. 125
5. 115
6. 120

This is normal for low compression (8:8:1). I spoke to CPrace and they think I blew the valve cover seals and oil rings so oil getting through causing that side of the motor not to fire.

 

Sorry to hear that Jorge I thought you had it dialed in with the new motor and the tune, I understand your frustration after going to the time and expense and still not be right. Good Luck.

Believe it or not I had mine repaired at a dealer and the body work/paint stuff was great it was at Reed Nissan in Orlando, the other stuff was not so good.

 

Or could be a leaky valve stem seal. Since the motor overheated a couple of times, it might have caused some galling. If the pistons are healthy, at least that will keep your repair costs down. Keep us posted....I really hope you decide to keep your car...crossing my fingers.

gman i know the feeling, my old turbo integra, kept blowing up on me, after a while your like *** it, the car is a money pit. Whats sucks is that 2-3 years from now, well know ever aspect of a fi Z, for right now, im stayin in the 400 range, even when i build it.

 

I will have the car towed to the shop on Monday to have a leak down test performed. Either way I think the time has come to sell the car. My wife despises the car cause of the time and money I spend on it. My whole family thinks I am crazy in regards to the car. It's like that old movie Christine about the chevy that was possesed...lol.

I already got an offer for the car and this evening I swung by the Lexus dealership. Anyway, lets see what happens.

What happens is that the kit you install gives you the warm and fuzzies but after a while you become acustomed to it and want more. This leads to a built motor and upping the boost. Unfortunately boost is addicting and before you know it you are making 500 + RWHP. At those power levels stuff breaks...its going to happen and its going to happen often. The more HP the more problems until eventually you reach the point where you dont care anymore and you quit. For some of us we never reach that point. I have been into cars for years and no matter how many problems I've ever had I fix them and hunt for more. Some people lose patience with it. I'm not saying I fault them for it but after a while people realize that its time to move on....

Gman, we have the same thing happen with the valve cover seal leaking into the spark plug holes which gives you the horrible feeling that something catastrophic has happened when in fact it is just a leaky gasket.The leak down test will confirm everything though.

 

Are you blowing smoke out of the side that the seal went bad? What do you think causes your gasket to go? How many hours does it take to replace the gasket and o rings?

It was a customers SFR single turbo VQ35 Maxima.Poor o-ring install on his part.It was the rubber o-ring that goes around the spark plugs in the valve cover. Initially, I pulled a plug and it had oil dripping off it. I was like your rings are done Then we did a leakdown to confirm and it was just a bad o-ring


What do you think causes your gasket to go? How many hours does it take to replace the gasket and o rings?


On the G or Z it will be a couple hour ordeal.Nothing major.
