Default Funny noise.....

Any of you guys running thicker oil w/ your f/i setup ever get a short rattle when you crank the car after it has sat for a while (couple days-week or so)?

A couple of things i would check. Im no mechanic but have some experience with problems like this.

1. oil may be low, maybe the thicker oil burned more and your thinking you still have plenty. Check the oil before you start the car, our dipstick is ridiculous.

2. Could be cracked cats if you have them. I used to get that when my exhaust was busted. It might be accompanied with a hissing noise?

3. Piston slap from a hard start cus no 0il on them? Probably not the problem but Ive heard some cars do that that are parked on a slight decline all night, when you go to start it all the oil drained away from the engine.

Hope that helps at all.

That is the hydraulic tensioner for the timing chain. It rattles for a second until oil pressure is restored to the tensioner. No worries.
