Help Cleaning Vortech Filter
#21
Zach, did Vortech change the filter on the "Z" SC? The filter that came with my kit was 4 1.2" long. The K&N filter RU-4410 will fit, but also does not have hole for breather. Plus, less filtering area.
Bad design? YES!

less filter area but easier to clean, you you might take it off a little sooner, but at least you can take it off.
i bought a small breather filter at autozone for couple of dollars and it fit perfectly on the breather hose. worked fine for me, i think baptist did it too.
you can clean the screen, its the piece the braided line screws into on the bottom of the blower, just take it off and clean it with something like mineral spirits.

I have ordered two G filters from Vortech. If I wanted the hole for the breather, I would have had to drill it. So, I guess CP Racing is installing the G Filter on Z's?
As I said earlier, the K&N filter will work. I have one that I used and clean. If ALL else fails I can throw it on. NO hole or space to drill a hole for the breather. It is much shorter and does not have as much filtering capacity. Important?
You might have to squeeze/rotate the G Filter a little to remove and install, but if you had the Z Filter you would have to totally destroy it to remove.

Ok - i switched out the large Vortech Z filter for the smaller (what i assume to be the G filter) that i got from CP Racing in Charlotte. The Z filter had the breather hole in it, but the one i ordered did not have the hold for the attachment. I cut the old large one off, drill a 1/2 inch hole in the new one and put it in the car. Did not have to dremel the brace, and other than a few frustrating minutes of fiddling with it because it is definately cramped quarters in there - it fit like a glove. I'll post pictures later...just wanted to let you guys know that it can be done and you don't neccesarily have to dremel, but you do have to drill the breather hole.
