Default Turbonetics Exhaust leak.....

Hey all just posting something.......between the Turbonetics downpipe 2 and 3 I have a exhaust leak.... there is a plate that connects to the transmission and this plate supports the 3rd piece of exhaust up.....well due to the way the plate is when you tighten the v clamp there is no play so I have about 1mm gap.....I will have to modify (bend ) the plate to get a good seal......

oh and if u saw the way people weld in hawaii (IE) O2 bungs and y-pipe parts you would cry.......looks like a blind kid did it.....no offense to the handicap....but you should respect your limits and stay away from welding.....

I have a leak in probably the same v-band clamp. Is it the one next to the header on the passenger side? I've removed my clamp and put on a new one, but still have the leak. I looked at the part number on the clamp and it does not match the part number in the parts list. It looks like the V part is too wide and does not pull both of the pipe's flanges together tight.

I have an email in to Reggie.

I picked up an automotive stethescope and it works great at tracking down the leaks.

Have you tried loosening up everything and realigning the whole downpipe? If the turbo itself is bolted down at a strange angle then it might be throwing the alignment of the entire exhaust end off.

haha...it appears that the exhaust Turbo input....wrapped with the silver heat wrap...started to heat the glue.....and thus causing smoke......hehe...a little too hot I guess....

What Craig mentions above is what you guys should try. I have had a couple other guys with the same issue and once that did what Craig mention above, problem solved! Good Luck!

when i was doing the install i pushed the turbo as far back as it could go. now downpipe2 is sitting on the y-pipe. i'm to lazy to take it all apart! haahaa.
i loosen what i could but like you said i will pretty much have to loosen the turbo etc... the leak is not that bad for me to go through all that right now.

same same...also once the metalic heat wrap glue burns off and it stops the little smoking it's doing.....less and less each drive...ill be better able to check for leaks......

I heard my first vacume leak on the plenum today.....loud whistle....I cant wait to dump the whole V4 Kinetix plenum and go with the SSV...

Hey Redline...I noticed that you have the Injen SES angled. Could you post a picture of your exhaust setup from the TN w/ the reverse Y pipe? I'll be doing mine soon & we have the same set up. THANKS!!!

I completly loosend the bottom v-clamp so that nothing was pulling on the bottom half of the pipe. so alignment was not an issue.

If you look at the v-clamp I removed you can see and burn marks around the ring indicating its not pulling the two flanges together. I still think they put the wrong clamp in the bag with the correct part number on the bag.

All the other clamps had the correct part number on them that matches the part number on the parts list.

I tried both clamps and could not get a 100% seal. You wouldn't know it was leaking without the stethoscope, but I couldn't leave it that way so I modified the down pipe.

I got a 1 inch length of exhaust tubing and turned it on my lathe till it would fit snug in the downpipe. I installed it with some high temp rtv and put extra RTV on before sliding it into the mating pipes. After an hour for drying I have no more leaks.

Its small, but full of tools. I even learned how to weld stainless with my mig when I had to make a temporary crossover pipe. Reggie got me the factory one last week, so everything looks much better now.

I still only have 7 lbs of boost. I installed a vacuum/boost gauge today and it confirms the reading I was getting with my old boost gauge.

My vacuum is steady at idle and slowly decreases with more load. I also used the stethoscope to search for leaks around the intake, intercooler, etc....

I plan to increase back pressure by putting fewer plates in my supertrapps to see if it makes a difference.

I've ordered a Profec B II as well.

Thats odd...only 7 PSI? Not being a d!ck but is the BOV vacuum line going to the right port? Ditto for the wastegate. BOV should have a boost reference in the upper port and wastegate should have it in the lower port.

Don't worry about it, I'm open to any suggestions. The BOV is in the top and the wastegate is in the bottom as shown in the instructions.

The BOV works as expected. The wastegate opens as you would expect, just too soon. Reggie even sent me another spring, but that didn't help.

I double checked and you hit it on the head.... BOV was hooked up to the bottom port. Problem solved.

What are the extra ports for on the wastegate and the BOV for?

Yeah that was my problem too, shopped installed the line to the bottom opening resulting in lower boost

Color pictures on Turbonetics instructions = AWESOME

Did anyone else experience the burning smell from the supplied metalic heat wrap???? on the pipe that feeds the Turbo exhaust gases??? Its the glue making the smell....lol
