i finally had time this holiday day off to get my Oil and Power Steering cooler installed.

Here's the step by step picts of how today went.. it was long, and tiring. but its perfect...

here we go:

the Setrab Oil cooler in question:


This is where i wanted to mount my oil cooler, passenger side, where the window washer fluid used to be:




Richey @ Technosquare fabbed a bracket for my Setrab oil cooler so it would mount to the stock fiberglass radiator frame.




Next up was to create an airguide as to force air from my bumper's vent straight into the oil cooler. we used cardboard to get a template



and we fabbed this piece using aluminum and the press






next up we wanted to run the lines for the oil cooler to the sandwich adapter,
here's the inside shot of the 120 degree hose adapter


and after the nylon lines have been attached.


i ran the lines down from underneath the headlight


here's a pict of the lines and air guide installed


Next, we had to make an exit for the air to go thru the fender wall, so i cut up the fender liner. luckily nissan already had some holes to remove air from inside the engine bay, so i just added more. because the wheel is moving downward, it will suck air out naturally. so i just cut along the bottom of the triangular vents.




Now we had to install the Mocal thermostat sandwich adapter,




Here's what my oil filter area looked like before, Notice my Greddy Oil Temp sensor adapter ring.

I left the stock oil cooler in there to help me warm up my oil to temp faster, if i feel like its not cooling enough, then i will remove it. for the time being. this is what i went with..

Next up, is my power steering cooler. the stock one is a joke, it boils @ idle on the freeway. No way in hell would it hold up drifting or at the track.. so.. i went to Kragen to pick up this.

Hayden UltraCooler (automagic tranny cooler) Model #401. It's the perfect size for your tracking Z... $32.00, and about 9 feet of 3/8" PS hose @ $0.17/inch ($19ish)...



The Stock PS cooler and the Hayden cooler both use a 3/8" slip on fitting. so all i needed to do was get longer hose and fab a bracket.

here's where the Hoses run from



we mounted a little tabbed hose holder (from where my stock PS cooler used to be)


and then ran the hoses to behind my intercooler to the final mounting place



a simple aluminum bracket, some black paint to make it look OEM, and Tada!



I Slapped on my CF bumper (my racing one. notice all the electrical tape to cover my scratches!!) and checked fitment:

PERFECT!

Power STeering Cooler

PERFECT!

i've noticed that my oil temps are already lower than stock. this is just cruising home after the install.. but i'll be taking some more measurements at higher boost...

I like your new oil cooler setup, very pro... not to mention: huge.

I have the same greddy spacer, its where I get my turbo oil feed from, and where I have my oil temp sensor mounted. I have the same Mocal thermostat spacer you have, but I have not built my oil cooler setup. I was trying to decide if I want to stack spacers like you have done, but I think I will just drill/tap the Mocal spacer and ditch the Greddy one.

Love the new setup tho... however I dont know if it would fit so well on the Greddy kit cars, which have a lot of piping right there... speaking of piping tho, that PE pipe is pretty weak man!! Maybe replace it with a cast elbow to replace the sharp radius section welded IC inlet pipe, and run some larger pipes, probably gain a little power??

Nice, thanks for helping me out on where the hell to put the oil cooler at. I'll pick up a new power steering cooler while I'm at it.

I'm still trying to figure out where I will be able to fit one with my stock bumper. I'm considering mounting them in the same location but making some ducts to route air flow to the side area.

 

nice cheston! glad to see you got that done. now you can be the mad tight drifter in his 4000hp z at the track and not have the oil or ps fluid limit your track time..hehe.... the coolers looks good, maybe you can make one for my corolla

 

Watch out for the mocal. we noticed the walls were quite thin for a cast piece. I also wanted to tap the sandwich adapter, but we thought it might crack if we tried to tap it. so thats why we just stuck it ontop of my greddyone.. also, with my oil pan setup, the 90 degree hose adapters might hit it, so eh. this is how we left it..


Yea that one bend on our prototype kit was smooth , the production is how you see it now.. Gurgen was thinking the same thing.. so if he does it.. i'll do it too.

 

Thank you for sharing your very professional install! Now I can finally answer a question I asked you a LONG time ago about how you measured your oil temp. Still not sure that a PS cooler is necessary. I NEVER saw over 180 degrees F. What I think some are interpreting as overheating is a cavitation(sp?) issue. But maybe the extra volume of the cooler reduces this.

BTW.....add some screens.
