Just confirmed my thermostat is toasted. It kept getting stuck and would not open i guess. I had the cold heater thing, the rising temp guage and the weird cruising temp. My car ran all the way to the H today. I had the Nismo thermostat for 22k miles.

Well this morning it was 34 or 38 in San jose. In the summer it averages about 80. So i may just run the stock one. Im a lil apprehensive about these thermostats.

Aren't they just idiot devices, a sensor reads a certain engine temp and the damn spring pops to open the thermostat to add coolant into the engine vanes right? I mean how hard can it be. Maybe i just don't know enough about the thermostat to understand how it can fail so soon.

Oh well at least it will be fixed.

The thermostat is basically there to prevent coolant from going to the radiator before the motor is heated up. After that its just a restriction in the cooling system that helps buffer against cavetation of the pump and ensures that the coolant flows steady. Its primary purpose though is to help get the car up to temp faster. In warmer climates pulling it has ZERO negative effect. Matter of fact my water temp went DOWN almost 15 degrees by pulling it.

any point of the relief valve up top near the back of motor?
I just put in my koyo and my heater will not turn on and motor slowly overheats then cools down according to temp gauge
fans turn on fine..

Is it just me, or have people, lately been having problems with purging the air from the cooling system. Check out the a very simliar thread on this topic for the correction points. Your cooling system needs to be purged....this is the reason you have no heat.

I had mine done and it helped for a lil while and then the thermostat went out, no heat was coming out and the engine temp climbed all the way to H and didn't come down til I was cruising and it stayed at the middle mark the whole time. It started with no heat and then progressively got worse.
