Default californians with forced induction!

after assessing the market, superchargers and twin turbos included, the single turbo seems to make the most sense for my needs, a daily driver conservative boost about 350-380whp. that being said one thing worries me, the fact that this mod is by far the most illegal thing you can have done to your car short of a nos bottle. (i think) i mean im sure if you strapped jato rockets or something to your car that woulde be more illegal but you get my drift... so what would happen if you got pulled over and spot checked with a turbonetics, or aps single turbo? would they impound on the spot? crush the car? make you take it off? shoot you in the face for polluting the environment? this is my only reservation in going with this set up, the what if... so please input is appriciated.

Most likely you will sent to a state referee for emissions testing. Unless its a multiple offense then I "think" they can impound your vehicle.

Also if you caught messing around then that changes the whole thing and i think they can impound you based on what happened.

At some point though, you are gonna have to smog it and they'll take one look and fail you.

Not all the systems are illegal, the Stillen and Vortech SCs are CARB cert-ed and APS is working on getting a cert for theirs. JWT has theirs waiting for release until they get cert-ed

By the way, Nitrous Oxide is not illegal if the bottle is not hooked up.

You get written a fix it ticket unless you were racing and you go to a referee station. When it comes time to smog if the kit passes the sniffer (Turbonetics does with the cat on the downpipe) then you just need to find someone to look the other way..

yea i have few shops that would look the other way, but with fix it tickets you cant just show up with all that **** on your car can you? i mean they will notice. and what will happen then. yea i dont plan on racing on the street so if i ever get tagged it will be a random spot check not a racing shake down.

Well the courts don't actually check the car themselves. You have to go to a liscensed shop that will sign the ticket and say its fixed. You take that into the court and you are done.

yea but ive had friends go to state ref for stuff, exhaust and such and they said it was pretty much police checkin out the vehicles, and we are not talking stupid police either, these guys know whats on your car because they are paid to. are you saying that if you got tagged for a turbo, they would refer you to a smog only place? and those guys are ***** for the most part because i think the state pays them more to be honest.

I do for the most part. I mean I don't like being around cops regardless especially with the huge vinyl on my car but for the most part the car sounds and acts stock unless I'm on it. I even had a cop next to me who asked me what Turonics was lol. I told him they sponsored me for wheels. He said "Oh cool, not bad, stickers for some nice rims".

I was thinking the same thing. All they will need to see is some kind of metal placecard. If any of you with a vortech can post a really good picture like that I can make it.
