Exclamation Thought this was cool,

I was under my Z two days ago trying to find an exhaust leak gremlin, and did you know we have a carbon fiber drive shaft . Anyway, how much hp can a stock transmission handle without modding it?

yeah carbon fiber with reinforcing steel
it's one of the things that makes the Z do what it does. faster revs and better crash results because it shatters on impact

yeah the cool thing is it only weighs like 14-16lbs. So when its off you can go "yo check out my Drive shaft" and hold it up with 1 arm. Pretty cool stuff.

I heard a rumor that the Tranny is good for 700hp.

I believe it is designed so the engine goes under the driver on impact instead of smashing you flat.

I am process of building a 650+ rwhp engine. From my discussions/research I am considering replacing the rear axle and the diff, but the driveshaft is about as good as it gets unless you are trying to get to 1000 hp or so.

I am sure there are a couple of guys out there from Performance, AAM, CP racing and others that could give you specifics if you are interested.

Just remember to be really really careful when working around that driveshaft!
