Default Anyone running Vortech with Return Fuel System?

Just wondering if anyone is running a Vortech SC with aftermarket fuel delivery. Specifically, I'm wondering who is running a Vortech with return fuel rail system, aftermarket pump (Walbro 255), and upgraded injectors.

If you are running something similar to this, I'd like to know if you also upgraded your engine management (UEmanage, UTEC, etc) and any comments regarding your tuning experience.

Preparing to make this upgrade soon and am trying to decide if I want (or if it is even really necessary for a SC application) to upgrade from the Split Second box to something else.

I have vortech with walbro, AAM spec return fuel system, 440 injectors, and E-Ultimate. I had a couple of issues with the Vortech FMU & SS box so I was eager to upgrade to the EU.

I recently had the motor built, added above components, and upped to the 3.12 pulley.

No return system here but added 440inj and walbro. Might have to go with a return since my fuel pressure has gone from 52psi stock to 80psi with the new set-up and dyno retune..Also notice the car seems to not make smooth transitions under low load demands.. At high load demands it responds well..AAM says not to worry with the high fuel pressure, I'm not so sure..

Curious as to why you didn't go with the 2.87 since you had the internals done? I bet the numbers with your set up and the 2.87 would be sweet.

May go this route (2.87 pulley) later. I want to break the motor in first. I also did not lower my compression ratio (new pistons are 10.5:1) so I do not want to go with too much boost (yet).

I gained about 35-40 whp with new fuel set up and 3.12 pulley (and great tuning).

ZU L8R is running a CJ return system with eManage Ultimate and Vortech. I'm sure he'll probably chime in when he sees your thread.

Im running the return fuel system , In tank walbro pump and 550 injectors . If your wondering if the SS box can handle it , yes it can . It can scale the injectors .I did end up getting my ECU flashed for the 550's , but it can be done with the SS .

Thanks for the info everyone. It helps a lot. Specific questions follow...

kzanard - did you do the E-Ultimate at the same time as the fuel system upgrade or separately? Wondering, if not at the same time, if you could tell a noticeable difference with the E-Ultimate tune vs the Split Second tune.

booger - 1) So, at this time, you are still using the Split Second box for tuning? 2) Do you *have* to do an ECU reflash for different injectors or can the SS scaling handle it entirely? If it comes to a reflash or buying an E-Ultimate, I'd probably do the latter... had a less than satifying experience reflashing my ECU already.

I did all of the upgrades at the same time. It was not clear to me if my earlier problems were due to SS box or the vortech FMU and I did not want to have to go through the same issues again later. FYI, my tuner says the 440's are maxing out around 6,200 RPM. I would consider going to 550's if you wil be pushing more than me.

I doubt I'll be pushing more power than you... I'm still on stock bottom end. My current tune is off a Dyno Dynamics dyno at 450rwhp... and that's being done currently with the stock injectors! What that equates to on a dynojet is debatable, but most likely we're talking about a final tune on my car anywhere from 400-450rwhp.

I'm pretty set on the AAM, Walbro, and Greddy 440s. I'm just waffling on whether it is absolutely necessary to go E-Ultimate or stick with the SS.

i'm trying to debate whether I should stick with the EU that I already have or go with the UTEC.

Without accurate timing adjustment - that was promised to us like 4 months ago, I'm not sure I want to risk it or not. AAM has a base vortech map that works with 440 injectors and fuel return system and 3.12 pulley for the UTEC

sounding more and more like I'll keep the Split Second as my tuning option.

mcduck,
Couple thoughts about a return system. Most articles I've read say they are necessary when you at 500hp..You have been with the stock fuel inj and fuel pump and I would have to assume you were not running lean at wot (A/F dyno) or you were lean and didn't push it..Why not just upgrade the inj's and fuel pump and be done?? As long as the duty cycle is below 80% (which it should be with this set up) what will a return system add ??

At the time I wasnt sure how to scale them right with the SS . And TS had just figured out how to flash for 550's . If you have done any tuning with the SS or seen the fuel map . All the numbers on the vacuum side of the fuel map , are pretty much the same . [10] All you have to do is lower all the # to say 9.2 for 550's....9.6 say for 440's . You really need an OBD to check the fuel trims to see if they even out . Split Second has a file on thier web site for down load . Its call ....UTune . It will show you how to scale them using the OBD

thanks again, guys.

jpc350z... the return line system is not just to lower my fuel pressure, but also for looks. I have the kinetix SSV and would like the polished rails, connectors, et al. to finish the look.

booger... thanks for the pointers. Sounds like that may be the way to go. CPRacing has done the prior tuning and have done a fantastic job. I'm sure they can handle dialing this in right as well.

So, AAM, Walbro, and 440cc's it is!
