Default Project Super Sleeper - Phase 2 . Dyno plot attached

I started project "Super Sleeper" back in July 2005. Typically in projects of this scope things do not go entirely as planned. Mine was no different. There were delays, manufacturing defects and other minor annoyances that caused this project to slip. But not all is lost! My patience is starting to pay off and we are almost complete with phase 2 of this build!

For all that are interested here is the recap of phase 1 of the build:

Motor Build -

Cleaned and decked block and heads
Bore and hone block
Crank balanced and knife-edged
WiseCo Forged Pistons 8.5:1 .020 over
GT Motorsports Forged Rods
Nismo 262 R-Tune Cams
ARP Head and Main studs
Ferrea complete Valve train kit
Cometics multi layer metal head gaskets
Engine completely balanced
JWT Clutch and Flywheel

Turbo Kit-

APS TT Kit
Forge Motorsports upgraded wastegates

ECU-

HKS FCON V-PRO

Exhaust-

APS True Dual 2.5' exhaust
Helix Test Pipes (For break-in and track use)
Random Technology Cats (For street use)

Misc-

HKS RS DB Gauges
HKS Knock Amp
HKS EVC Boost Controller
Koyo Aluminum radiato

For more detailed information about this part of the build see : https://my350z.com/forum/forced-induction/132087-550-whp-tt-and-engine-build-up-spec-ed.html

Now on to the second part of this build...

Phase 2 information:

Fuel System-

GT Motorsports high capacity fuel system which includes:
RC 1000cc injectors
Walbro 255lph external fuel pump.
GT Motorsports fuel rails
Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator

This fuel system is slick. This is one of those products that look great and performs even better.

ECU-

Upgraded HKS Vpro to latest revision
HKS Mix controller
HKS Navigator

HKS added a bunch of new functionality to the FCON. One notable is EGT compensation. Also with the removal of my 3 stock gauges I needed something that will give me mpg information etc. The HKS navigator will do this.

Other:

Exedy hyper carbon clutch/fw
Aquamist System 2D
Auxillary Idle control valve
Samco radiator hoses
DEFI BF Gauges into stock 3 gauge pod
DEFI VSD concept

Removed: HKS DB Meters (for sale)

The Exedy hyper carbon clutch is a decent clutch. The downside is that it takes a LONG time to warm up. The upside is when it is hot, the clutch does not slip.

We decided to run 50/50 methanol and distilled water mixture for the water injection. I am utilizing the stock windshield washer fluid tank.

The auxillary idle control valve was used to smooth out the idle under all conditions. This is still a work in progress.

Well that sums it up. Here is the dyno plot:

11 PSI of Boost - No Water Injection - STD Correction

Also, these additional items were also installed:

Motor-

"Rev-up" Motor intake runners
APS Plenum

ECU-
'03 350Z ECU

Misc-
APS Strut tower bar

Driving Impressions:

I was able to put on a good 350 miles on the car. That was enough to really see what I spent my hard earned money on.

The first thing I noticed was how fast this car revs! It is unbelievable how free reving this motor has become. When I am in 1st gear and floor it, it is literally 2-3 seconds before I need to start shifting. Amazing.

Another noticable difference is the lack of traction. In 1st gear its obvious but it seems funny to me that I can be cruising in 2nd gear and stomp on the gas and completely smoke the tires through 3rd.

HUGE Torque. Enough said about that!

In closing, I am not ashamed to say that the performance of my car has become much more than I can handle at the moment. And thats exactly what I wanted. I did not want a car that I can be comfortable with and want to race it on the street. I wanted a challenge. Now I am more motivated to take the car on to the track and really learn how to drive.

For you Cali guys, I will see you on the track.

Yes, the car has been in the shop for awhile. There has been quite a few set-backs. For instance, the Aquamist 2d system uses pulses from the fuel injectors to insure that a fixed ratio of water/fuel is being delivered. Well you guessed it... The RC 1000cc injectors were not working with the system. We reported the problem to Aquamist and they built a new driver and sent it out to us. Not a big issue but another delay nonetheless.

Also, two more maps will be added to the FCON. A water injected 1 bar map and a water injected 100 octane 17psi map. Dyno plot will be posted once I receive them.

BTW 350ZNV , fun is an understatment.

I was just wondering why do you have 1000cc injectors... I have over 700rwhp with the aps kit running only 650cc and thats still to big.....

What is your current injector duty cycle?

RC recommends not to exceed 80% duty cycle. I used the worksheet on rceng website to determine proper injector sizing. It maybe a little overkill but the price of 1000cc and 650cc were the same.

I would love to hear how other people determine the size of their injectors.

thats a wonderful torque curve only a built motor can reproduce. Good stuff.

I really dont know what my duty cycle is...we determine the size of the injectors by the amount of hp/boost we were going to run.........

That's very true what you stated. Fuel injectors should not exceed 80% duty cycle at full power/full engine load though you can in my experience run injectors up to 90% duty cycle without any real long term problem. It's when you hit 100% duty cycle you have a real problem as the injector never closes, not good.

Good luck with your project, looks and sounds really awesome.
