Question (Stupid?) For The FI Gods
I apologize in advance to all of you, oh knowledgeable ones, for my ignorance. I couldn't find anything on a search, so here it goes
...
I'm having the common grinding problem of shifting into 3rd which I understand are the syncros. This is under warranty for me. Since I have an APS TT kit installed, will the dealer have to uninstall this kit to install or repair this transmission failure?
I'm obviously not comfortable with this scenario.
I'd want my tuner to uninstall the kit if needed and fix the transmission but how would I coordinate that? Or am I concerned for no reason? Is the removal of the kit not required. I'll be adding a new clutch and flywheel later this year. I just don't want this to be a PIA!
Sorry for my ignorance and TIA for the help!

'sticklers'? are you kidding? you're pushing double the power through that transmission than stock... i'd be stunned if there was any dealer willing to warrantee a transmission with a turbo kit on there...

yeah head to your Tuner get your kit uninstalled then go to the dealer and have thme replace the transmission
if you leave your turbo on there the dealer will prolly blame the prob on the turbo kit and say that you have voided your warranty

Do you know what version of tranny you have? If you have a 005 or 006 they will definitely do it no matter turbo or not. Anything later than that is determined by you rapport with the dealer. Sounds like it won't be a problem for you. Lucky you don't have the greddy. You have to remove the wastegates to get the tranny out. Another reason to run the SVRT wastegate relocation kit.

If you look hard enough, I'm sure you can find a dealer to replace it for you under warranty.

Sychros can be damaged by hard or improper shifting, overevving, etc, but not from engine load. When you shift, there is little load on the tranny at the moment you are trying to engage the gears. Given the track record of problems with this tranny....even in the NA world...they should replace it without hassle. Fight for your rights!
I got mine in Dec '02 so you also have an early build. You definitely have the 005 version. It won't be a problem at all having it replaced under warrantee. Mine was replaced with 25k miles on the car. Mine got progressively worse until it would grind most of the time going into 3rd even when shifted slowly. It is a well known problem with these early transmissions.

Just for info, I checked with the Nissan Dealership here, and supposedly, anyway per sei: They said the warranty for the transmission is voided when modified, i.e. cams, s/c, tt, etc. That was straight from the dealersip here, I did talk with the Service Dept, and the GM. Just for info anyway...
That sounds like a very mod unfriendly dealer. As Sharif said power output does not have a bearing on synchros.

Ask him if he even understands that the synchros actually do. Review this link before speaking with him, and prove to them that you know your stuff: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission6.htm
I don't know, really depends on the warranty and what can be done...I understand what Sharif said, but again, it's the dealership that would have to say the warranty covers it. And us to show that the reason for a tranny problem is not because of the mods, or addition hp or additonal torque or additonal anything didn't cause the problem. I'm no expert in the field. I know I haven't had any problems, but if one dealership says no, then a person would have to keep searching to find one the would say yes, and then post it so all the FI could go there, if the occasion arises, that they could get the use of the warranty at the location. As for NorCal, somebody please be sure to post it, so all can use it if needed.
