Default Car almost died on me.

Driving home last night I got into a bit of a race with a bimmer, well we were both going about 75mph when I noticed a gap in traffic up ahead, so I nailed it and passed the bimmer and another van and went through this gap when all of a sudden my car bogged on me. Now I have a vortech and I do know that if I accelerate hard it will hit the rev limiter even with the L flash but is that what I did last night as when I noticed the car slowing down I tried to accelerate and it would just shudder like I was running out of gas. I had to baby it for the 3 miles as it would not pick up speed, then it went away and I could accelerate once again but I just drove real carefully.
I have no real idea what happened but I am wondering if it was the engine cutting me out also as I was told that my car does ping ever so slightly at high rpms and I was thinking that the ecu may have retarded timing to such an extent that it caused me to bog.
Any ideas appreciated.

My first thought when reading your post was that you popped off a fuel line . But thats not the case . It wouldnt be the rev limiter , as it would recover right away as the rpm's went down .
If its detonation , you be nuts to keep boosting it up to redline . If you live where it gets cold . It could be a winter blend gas , which I hear can be a problem . And if some one [ you didnt say who ] said its detonating slightly . I would get right back to the tuner and have him tune it again so it doesnt

My first though listening to you describe your symtoms would be what I just experienced and fixed~ LIMP MODE. However it usually requires shutting the car off to reset your ECU. Since it seems you did not have to shut the car off for the immediate symtom to "go away" I'm not sure. However I experienced a couple of different versions (symtoms) regarding my MAF problem. Ted will be able to straighten it out Paul!

ya sounds like the maf maxed out. when it happened to me i pulled right over and shut the car off. considering you drove for abit longer, maybe it is possible it can reset itself

Thanks guys, yeah I have hit the limiter a few times and I know it was not that but I have a feeling I did hit something as it initialy slowed the car from 100+mph to 65 and it still let me drive but would not let me go any faster.
Today on the way to work it drove the same as usual but I am def. going to make a few adjustments.

booger, this is the first time I have gone all out since I was told that I need to get better gas or a W/M injection system...my bad.

The SS box does a good job a clamping off the MAF volts . I havent heard of any one having problems with it . The MAF sensor may be going bad . I had pretty much the same set up as you before the rebuild . You should have NO problems at all getting enough fuel and retard the timing enough to stop any detonation on 91 octane . Are you making around 9..10 psi ?

booger, I thought I told you that I went over to the Unichip my SS took a dive on me and that is what caused my car to not start up.
I am making 9.5psi at full max rpm which is 7000rpm.

FYI, I posted to the other quote you made on G35 forum.

Marc you are right, my voltage for the MAF was set too low and when it read the higher air flow it shut down to limp mod which is 2500rpm. Ted set me up good to go, I will be at his place this weekend putting some 100octane and having it dynoed one last time before the next phase of mods

Sure is nice when the solution is a simple one. I was very glad to have been a member of this board and have read enough about "limp mode" to know what I was experiencing. Really glad your up and running smooth again Paul
