so installing that bigger intercooler is a major pain in the butt? doesn't it just need some pipe welding onto the other pipes? You actually have to use a thicker pipe all the way to the throttle body?

I'm thinking about doing it

No you can use the small piping if you want but you will loose some of the effiecancy that you would have other wise gain by switch to the larger intercooler in this case as the intercooler is rated with the 3" in/outlets.

ICEVEX RATING IC40-M

In our case we are attempting to maximize the vortech T-trim with minimal loss as the T-trim is rated to 1200cfm w/max boost of 26psi at 73%

Vortech Supercharger chart

So it is imperative that we encoure the least amount of pressure loss as to maxmize power gained.

Not only that but the single pipe with MAF mount looks a whole lot better than the 5 piece piping plus MAF that the stock kit utilizes just for the intake side from intercooler to throttle body what a mess

so why does vortech ship a blower that blows 1000cfm with an intercooler that handles 800?

seems pretty sucky

Just about every kit is that way...HKS is worse....ATI does...Not sure on the turbo kits . The kits were not designed with upgrading in mind

so is the stock IC going to be a problem with my setup pushing 400-440whp with the 3.12 pulley? Seems like lots of people are running fine though

I'm mainly concerned with safety and not so much gaining a few hp- is the air going to be too hot with the stock IC at 400-440whp? I suppose I should first look into getting a CAI setup with my vortech

I'm all for getting a single piece intake pipe that looks much nicer than the million piece pipes that the stock vortech kit does, but I am a little concerned with rubbing issues if it's such a tight fit you have to lube up the pipe just to get it installed. I'm going with solid motor mounts too, but still...

I pushed a little over 13psi thru that IC . I never did check intake temps .

I never said anything about having to lube a tube!!

Most kits are designed with a target. Vortechs kit was based on 8 psi and probably something like 800cfm or less no need for larger intercooler cost is kept down makes kit more competative.

Your CAI will cool intake temps from compressor to intercooler and yes will affect temp from intercooler to throttle inlet but the bottle neck in between and the pressure is what will cause intake temps to rise. Like I said before we are not dealing with stock kit here we are going beyong that with upgraded compressor with means everything else needs to be upgraded.

Your right there are a lot of kits out there on G35s and 350Z running 3.12 pulley with no issue. But we are not shooting for 400 here we are seeking to maximize what we have on hand.

Just got reply from vortech as to intercooler spec and I quote

"This unit has an airflow rating of 760 cfm with 1.5 psi pressure drop"

So upgrading intercooler should yeild a decent gain I would warn against going to big

John...I had mentioned that my shop lubed up the pipe to squeeze it in place . I tried to take it off last night and gave up . I have no idea how he managed to get it in there

On...Thats what I figure after trying with it on . The whole thing would have to come off . I dont know how you have yours , but mine dips right after the TB , goes under the AC line and then bends down under the blower . I'll take a pic of it later and post it

Even the stock Vortech kit requires that you remove the compressor well I guess you could actually get it off without doing that but it would definately be a pain in the ***

I took mine off without removing the blower but it was pain so I can imagine how hard it would be with the larger piping.

Bill are you still having small issues with the T trim as I recall in another thread that something was going on. I am waiting to see if yours turns out fine before I give them the go ahead on mine.

I had a 1000 miles or more on the T-trim . After the motor was redone is when I started having problems with it . I havent got it figured out yet . It doesnt whine nearly as loud as before they put new gears in it , but its still there . Going to do some more investigating today to see if I can find the problem . Ive been emailing and PM-ing [Forced] from Vortech trying to get it norrowed down

Is this pipe or pipes . Any different from a AT5 to a MT6 and a G to a Z ?
