I'm thinking this could be a good key to traction in 1st and 2nd (well, slightly better at least) and less shifting, especially before the motor build.
How many of you have done the 3.3 swap and what are your impressions?

I have the 3.5 on my AT5 and Im thinking and more than likely will go back to the 3.3 . My power is getting up there and I have no traction at all in first or second . Even in 3rd on a 40mph roll and punch it , the back end come around . So I have no doubt that it will help some...IMPO

more specifically, what are your shift points now with the 3.3 in? Also, does it "feel" slower now that it's in each gear longer? or do you like the added length of pull and less necessary shifting?
I didn't notice a diffence on the butt dyno or on the track with traction. My times did drop by .1 seconds and 2 mph but there are too many factors to blame it on the 3.3 fd.

I want to swap my 3.3 to 3.5 for 1/4 times but will hopefully go back in the future when i go for big power. Let me know if anyone is selling their 3.5 set-up i need it with VLSD

yes, I lost 6% rwhp, which makes sense, since 3.3 is 94% of 3.5.
Traction in first and second was not improved (tho it may have contributed to my improved control in those gears, because this year I am a lot better at modulating the throttle to maintain minor wheel slip to keep the car moving if I focus). Traction in 3rd was greatly improved.
While I dont pay enough attention to the speedo to notice the speed difference per gear, you can feel the car doesnt rev so easily thru the gear, like it has to work just a little harder. It feels like its slowed down the accel just barely, but not enough to bother me... as I still feel like the outcome of a race will be better if I eliminated a shift.
One guy in a Supra I raced asked me if I was reving to 8000+ because I was in gear so long each gear. Honestly I feel a lot better suited racing with larger engine cars now. I always hated running with blown cobras or vipers because i would always shift once more then they would in every roll on race.

So your at about 540whp now? <---suck at Math. You see to me the shifting a lot/during a race is not an issue (if the tranny held up), and Im scared with a 3.3FD and especially a gearset gears will be too long, and the advantage of more traction in the first 2 gears will be overcome by the longer "slower" gears, thus really slowing me down overall...ughh
I swapped mine over the summer. unless you are pushing a minium of 450 at the wheels, I wouldn't do it. The drivability of the car greatly improves as 1-4 are much more user friendly. the car doesn't reve through the gears as easily just like phunk stated, but with enough power, the car still feels strong.
5th gear now feels like what 6th used to with the 3.5 and 6th basically feels like a cruising gear. with the 3.5, I never down shifted out of 6th, but with the 3.3, I found myself downshifting on the highway at times.

500+whp Z's still have to shift to 5th down the 1/4 with the 3.3FD, so @ the track the 3.5 will be faster given equal launch/driver. Only advantage I see is street tire traction in first 2 gears.....
