how would the ECU control boost? there's no electrical connection to the wastegate.

boost is ALWAYS controlled by the wastegate.

get a lower psi spring from a turbonetics dealer, like a 7psi spring.

why you want to lower the boost?with 8 psi is more than good for the engine,
you can open the wastegate and cut the spring or order 7psi spring,if i was you and i want 7psi then i will go for NOS

Don't cut the spring. Any Turbonetics dealer can get you a lower PSI spring...

Yeah they are not expensive either, but if you are going to lower the psi you got to be able to tune for it or you will be very rich at WOT.

Then how the hell would the Boost Controler work with Turbonetics ???

taurran how did you hook the Blitz Boost Controler ?

boost controllers modulate the wastegate. Again, the WASTEGATE ALWAYS CONTROLS BOOST! fooling with the wastegate is how you change that, but you can never get lower boost than the spring it set at. (btw, boost controllers essentially fool the wastegate)

Yeah, the boost controller is basically a relay or something like that before the wastegate (in the sense of the routing of the vacum line).

So if you have the Turbonetics set at the standered 8 psi, then get a boost controller. Then set it at like 10 psi, when the boost controller allows the boost to build to 10 psi it will sorta open up or relay the vacum to the wastegate which is set at 8 psi so it will open up and control the boost from then on.

oh thank you guys now i got it, so the springs will only set the starting point, like the one coming with TN they set the starting at 8 PSI, so people with built engine will not use the 8 PSI spring they will use at least 10 PSI spring am i right ?

Yup, I used the 7lb spring in the wastegate, then installed the SBC. Works like a charm and I build boost perfectly with no overboost. I do not have the wastegate fix pipe installed.

Basically the spring weight is the bottom floor for boost pressure. With just a 7lb spring my manifold pressure would be roughly 6.5psi. The solenoid in the boost controller controls the wastegate above and beyond the capacity of the wastegate spring, so you could be pushing 25+psi on an EBC with a 7lb wastegate spring if you wanted. So, it really depends on how LOW you'd like to keep boost.

thanks for the info taurran, may i ask you please what is the advantage of decreasing the boost ? at 6.5 the turbo will spool at what rpm ?

P.S. it seems that i will go same route as you if my A/F ratio stayed ok with the reflash.

Decreasing the peak pressure ratio will not change boost threshold (full boost at Xxxx RPMs) YOu will simply run richer if you are on the flash...

aha so if i`m on the lean side with the reflash i`d decress the boost to get a richer a/f ratio, just to be on the safe side (if i dont care about the output power) so Boost Controler is a must at least if i wasnt going to use a EMS.

Thanks alot for the info MIA

Its not a MUST as chances are you will NOT be lean on the reflash but everything you stated was correct.

Ive read as a general rule of thumb-you shouldnt run more than 2X the wastegate spring with a boost controller. So 7lb spring-->14lbs with boost controller, any thoughts guys?
