Smile Stillen Stage 4

Just finished installation of Stage 4 Kit and completed power runs. In Aus we have difficulties getting high octane gas, these runs were competed using 98RON although we do have [Shell] 100RON now available and I plan to run some benchmarks with this next month. Could expect a 10 - 15 kw increase just from that.

Overall we saw a PSI drop from a peak of 7psi using [GOLD] pulley of the Stgae III Kit to 6psi using [SILVER] pulley supplied with the Stage IV. As yet it is not certain that this is due to incorrect pulley sizes as it may be just new belts slipping after installation. PSI did seem to come up [v. slightly] as the runs progressed, definatelly no where near 7psi tho!

We are running an after market [Unichip] piggy back system to aid ignition and fuel mapping. First thing we noted was that all the additional fuel the Stage III kit put in seemed to have been stripped out by the replacement unit.

This meant that we were running v. lean after the install and re-flashed the Unichip after 1 run. Didn't want detonation.

RESULTS:
Somewhat disappointing. Expected to see a significant increase, where in fact we were eventually making about 10kw across the entire rev range. I was told to expect ~25HP, so I guess this is about right. That in mind I would have to say this kit has been exceptional. No noticeable over heating issues on multiple track days, very respectable torque figures 421Nm or ~310FtLb from as low as 4000RPM. Makes for a very good track car, easy, predictable power delivery. Need to work on the suspension & braking set-up now

ALL GOOD PROBLEMS

Nate,

What color did Stillen provide you with. I'm hearing that they are sending gold pulleys instead of silver ones. I don't know if they are the same size or not.

Nate
i had the gold pulley at stage 3 now the silver pulley at stage 4 , the silver pulley is a bit smaller so it has to give more boost, there is no way the boost will drop unless belts are slipping ( smaller pulley = faster rotation= more boost, however better chances of slipping be careful). the only pain in the *** was the installation of the larger injector due to its ackward place thats all. overall results , great improvement , faster car.

It should be a silver pulley for the stage 4. That is what I have on my car. I'm running 8psi consistantly. I have not had a chance to dyno my car yet, but I'd estimate close to 350-360whp.

If you see a pressure drop when upgrading to stage 4, there is something wrong there. Either loose belts, or an incorrect pulley etc... My boost went up about 1.5psi when i did my stage 4.

And yes, the install of the pump and the new injector are the harder things to do with the install, but not entirely too hard...

I got the silver pulley...Stage4 Installation went smooth...eventhough I haven't get the chance to drive it...per the installer, he said that my car now is way more power....according to him, he's hitting close to 10 psi??? (I think stage4 is 8~9 onlyz). My wife picked it up this evening and told me it sure is faster than stage3....will get dynoed and result in 2 weeks

subscribing, loving the stillen threads and feedback on stage 4!!

TONY (and everyone else) I took out my idler pulley on the serpentine belt and am now using a stock sized gator back serpentine belt. That pulley was squealing incesantly and when I replaced it, the new one did the same thing, so I took it out and so far have had no adverse affects, the guys at stillen told me this was an option if the new pulley didnt work. ANYONE ELSE DO THIS?

sorry about the hijack.

i second Tony, although i did not measure boost or dyno but my car feels really faster than stage 3 my butt dyno says it must have gained at least 30hp at the wheels, i expect around 360 at the wheels . the hardest thing was the pump that you need to cut off some plastic of it so it can fit , and the injector is in a place where small hands would be very useful....

Reliability is the answer to this. Considering the install costs, and tuning costs that a turbo can require, the stillen comes out to be considerably cheaper, while still being safe. The stillen doesn't require tuning sessions, etc... And it seems that the general consensus of the turbo crowd as of late is to opt for a higher quality management system, such as UTEC, FCON and other related units. This costs money, and adds up. So the Stillen becomes a prime choice for those who are not looking to make tons of power.
