Default SC on an AT, is this normal?

I went into my local dealership to pick up my car from maintenance today. I had a few minutes to kill so walked around abit looking at their selection of Z's. In the front of the showroom was an 05 Redline Enthusiast that they had tricked out with a Stillen Stage 2 SC, one of these, CF pop up hood, 18' NISMO rims, and some other odd bits.

So I'm thinking to myself, "Nice.", I then look inside and see that it's an automatic, which seemed irregular to me. Do many people put SC on auto tranny Z's?

Normal sticker price was $31.7k, kitted out $49k.

Funny thing to me was that you could already see where the main drive pulley for the SC was wearing on something and starting to fray.

I'm also curious of the warranty they offer on the car. I'll have to ask about it this week when I go in for rear axle repairs.

Give me 5K$, and I'll gladly make it less irregular.

There are quite a few ppl with the 5 AT s/c and turboing them. The transmission may need a bit of work down the line due to the excessive power though. Not a huge deal though if you build it up from the get-go.

Ok, sorry if I made it sound like AT's were unworthy, it wasn't my intention. I've just never seen many SC'd autos, other than on Buicks, etc.

Yeah, 18 grand does sound a little steep for what they've done to it. The paperwork made no mention of any internals work such as B&B, upgraded pistons, or anything like that. It had plain stock brakes, and clothe enterior.

That is mainly where my question was rooted, as to whether the AT could take the added HP/TQ, then again most of the trannies that are getting replaced are MTs, aren't they. I guess maybe the dealership knows something we don't.

As the Hp/weight ratio increases, the inefficiency of the torque converter becomes minimal in proportion to total horsepower so the advantages of a manual over an auto are minimized in a 400hp Z in straight line acceleration. With a high stall torque converter and high capacity transmission cooler, a 400hp auto Z may provide more consistent launches and 1/4 mile times. On the other hand, kickdown with an auto Z with that much torque can provide suprising loss of traction and embarrasing if not dangerous behaviour on wet pavement leaving you dependent on the traction control. With a manual you can easily downshift to the correct gear before you need to accelerate minimizing this problem.

you kidding? AT is preferable in 1000hp+ cars, cuz you can't shift fast enough, as first and 2nd gear becomes almost useless. Dealers mark up more than 100% on everything they do and sell. I'd figure, especially with the supercharger, cuz they have to warranty it and sc's are more maintanance.

17.3K for an SC... Pricey... If they haven't done anything else to it, too much, even with markup.

An Auto S/C'ed Z needs it's REV Limiter raised or better yet, the Valve Body upgraded.

I assure you, I am not kidding, simply ignorant.

I do have to admit though, it is a really nice car, and I'd love to see it run. The Stillen Cf package is attractive, and go very well with the 18" NISMOs.

So as far as the transmissions goes, it's basically a matter of choice, since both can perform comparably under varying conditions?

Danny... Forgive my ignorance. Why do you need raise the rev limiter on a Stage II Stillen SC on an auto Z? There is little to gain in terms of hp after 6000 RPM with this setup on an 05 Z. By the way, I am "running" a stage II Stillen SC on a 6speed ZR.

Edit: Never mind. I see from the FI forum that the auto does not shift fast enough and hits the rev limiter.
