For an engine build, I'd recommend SGP since I have personal exp with them, and I'm sure BuiltZmotors would do you right as well.

Actually 9psi, I'm actually looking for some suggestions. Like I said, I only want to hit maximally 500-550whp.

Look for longevity not just hp goals. Overbuilt is better than underbuilt.

Sorry to hear Brian. Its amazing how some VQ engines last 5k miles and others last 50k miles at 500 whp. Talk about variance...

No disrespect to the sites I did not link to. It was a quick copy and paste from a different post. Keep in mind the core charge if your motor is destroyed. The classifieds is somewhere to look for possible cores.

Your wife sounds cool.

Exactly, I was counting on, well praying for 25K miles, not 5-6K.

Sorry to hear about the motor. But I gotta say I respect the hell outta you FI guy's.Blowin 350z up like nothing then acting casual about it.I would love to boost mine but would never do it without building the motor at that time(20-30k Z06 please).I remember reading about the VQ's internals (rods) being made as light as possible for less rotation mass.Is that true or did I read something wrong it was sometime ago I read that.Once again sorry for your loss.

Thanks man but I'm definitely not feelin' casual about it. You can't tell by reading this but I'm still shaking from the whole thing. One minute your car is running great then all of sudden, bang!

Sorry to hear this, esp on the aps kit..
I feel this really should not have happened, esp if you werent on wot when it blew, this means that something was not setup correctly. Let us know what the autopsy says, and good luck man

what type of gas octane were you running?

the guys running 500+whp on stock internals run 101 octane gas and maybe have other provisions for heat

What was the outside temp when this happened?

Something odd had to have happened here. I installed my kit within 2 weeks of you...tuned days apart at the same shop, I have more miles, and CONSTANTLY beat the living $hit out of my car. Had you done an oil change yet and if you did how much oil did you put in?

Sorry to hear about this Brian...this really hits close to home since my car has so much in common with yours (same shop, tune, time since install, etc). Hope you get it all fixed and you're happy with it.

You don't know what this "means". If he made it 5000 miles on this kit, and something wasn't "setup correctly", why wouldn't it surface until now??? Especially in a low throttle input situation. There are many other factors here...oil level for one.

I am not trying to start a war here, but just because he has an APS TT doesn't mean he is exempt from blowing a motor. Brian was properly tuned for his mods.....chit happens. I suspect there are more cases of APS blown motors, but APS owners just don't post. There was a APS ST blown motor and the owner never posted anything. Like a said I am sure there are many more cases.

Brian I am sorry to hear about your motor. I would recommend that you over build. Its better IMO to over build (long block over short block) so you can make mover power at lower boost. With a complete long block other than sleeves and valve train you can make 500whp at around 10 or 11psi. As you have probably read those of us boosting higher are experiencing what we think is headlift.

Do you have daily driver? If so I would recommend you hold off on the build for a month or so because a few people are working on a fix for headlift. I know you say you will be happy with 500whp, but you will want more especially after your motor can take it. If the fix for headlift works you will have the potential to go up to 700-800whp if you desire. It always good to have the option of just upping the boost and retuning with out worrying about the motor giving out.

As far as shop to build, I would recommend SGP because I have experience with them. I have put 7000 miles on my current motor and it rock solid. I am willing to bet that no one on this forum beats their car like I do. I just took a morning drive and cruised at 120mph and hit upward of 150mph. This is how I drive everyday and my car is a daily driver. I have filled up 6 times since last Sunday and I am at a 1/4 tank right now.

If you want your motor immediately pm 350zDCalb. His motors look high quality and he is building them faster than SGP.

excuse all the typos. I am off to get my daugther baptised and my wife is yelling at me to get off the computer so we can leave.
