Default In Mourning

Well folks I'm in a club I never wanted to be in....THE BLOWN ENGINE CLUB. It was my turn today. I got 6389 miles of some of the most kick azz fun in the world. I will now be eating some "crow" from some of my friends and family that just don't understand our crazy azz hobie. Alot of people enjoyed ( besides myself ) blasting down the country roads we enjoy in my rural part of northern cali ...and that is where she died. Two miles from my house.
I am not mad nor surprised. I have no blame for anyone (not even myself ). I am sad and will miss my car immensely. I knew I was on borrowed time with my 450+ rwhp car ( 13 psi on 100 octane ). My plan was to build a year from now.... but knew the car might have it's own time frame.
As some of you might remember I had to wait a year ( saving money ) before I could install my APS TT kit. I had one of the first 100 APS kits in the country. When I did pull the trigger I had custom cams, APS plenum, custom true dual exhaust, and a JWT clutch installed ( gauges also ).
To answer some questions up front. I had less than 1000 miles since my last oil change. I checked the oil this morning before taking her out. Car was running 104 octane at the time. Was around 4000 rpm and did not hear a loud noise but heard a "pop" and smell the smoke. I knew right away what was up... cause in a sick way I was expecting this day. I suspect a rod but I don't really know. I did not hear the "clanking" noise until I slowed down. My buddy who was with me said maybe I just blew an oil hose off. We both wanted to believe that until we heard the noise of the engine.
On a final note. I always joked that one of my mods to my Z was a 2005 Honda Civic. Now I see that It was not a mod but some sort of insurance. My car will be down 6 months to a year. I am taking my inlaws to Hawaii and my budget won't allow for the build for the time I mentioned. I will not have a 700 rwhp car out of Scott Performance. I will have a car near to the power I just had with far more reliability.
I have the best wife in the world because she is mourning right along with me. We are going out now will be back later with responses to any questions.

Late

RIP little stock motor. Some of us can sympathize with you. Some of us are on our second built motors so we can really sympathize, lol.

If it were MY inlaws, they'd just have to wait on the vacation, haha.

Sorry about your motor. You probably busted a piston ring. Mine did the same thing....POP....then tons of smoke.

Man, when it rains it pours! I'm really sorry Marc. It will be a long road for me as well. I too have a 04' "Honda" CRV as my backup, one car has to be reliable. Good luck with your eventual build.

Damn all these blown motors. Looking at all these threads is just about to spook me away from going TT on my 06. When I first joined the forum, I remembered seeing some stories of blown motors and hearing that there were way more when the Z first came out. I said to myself, "Those guys just didn't know what the hell they were doing. They were inexperienced with turboing factory NA cars and got boost happy."

I no longer feel that's the case, though.

I was about to order my Greddy TT kit, AAM return fuel system, and AAM 3 inch downpipes w/ dump tubes today. Now I'm thinking about not going FI and getting some Volks, an LSD, clutch, suspension stuff, and a bunch of sh*tty bolt-ons and calling it a day.

I stared at the phone for 15 minutes today thinking about this purchase.

on a side note I don't know if you are looking for a used or new daily driver, but I am getting a Toyota Tacoma on Friday as a daily driver. Nothing's wrong with my car except that it wastes to much gas and my driving style doesn't help. As of last Sunday I have filled up 7 times....about $330 worth of gas. I am leasing the Tacoma for $250 a month for 3 years and expect to spend less than $200 in gas per month. $250 + $200 = $450 < $330 x 4 week= $1,320 in gas per month. Haha! It is cheaper to own two vehicles then to just drive mine everyday.

If I continue filling up like I did the past week I might end past that number after a month.

I'm sorry to hear this. I'm in the APS TT club...just not the blown engine club (as of yet). On my next tune, I've been telling people I'm all about safer power, not more power. I just want 400rwhp as safe as possible. I completely understand waiting 6 months to 1 year, because if this happens to me as well then I'll probably be in the same boat.

I'm glad your wife was cool about it. If it were me, I'd either drink a lot of beer or a big ol' margarita tonight.

I wonder if any of these engines going out lately have anything to do with the weather warming up? Well, today it was over 100 degrees where I am at.
