Default Injector 1 (pin 23) same on 05

Does anyone have a 05 service manual or knows if the Pin 23 is Injector 1 on the 05 as it was on the 04???

I'm trying to hook up my raptor shift light and that seems to be the only signal that works well.

My 05 350z manual states pin # 23 is for Inj # 1.

You may want to check out Sears, they have a Craftsman meter for $30 that will read frequency. By monitoring the frequency on the wires in question you can find a wire that should work with the shift light. Keep in mind that there are several duplicate wire colors at the ECU harness so you need to make sure you have the right one. Good luck!

I have that meter. Since everyone using the raptor had good luck with fuel injector 1 I want to try that first before I have to check every connnector...

Brings up a good point though, anyone know what color the wire is?

The ESM says the wire color is "R/B" so either red / black or red / blue.......

FYI:

b = black
l = blue
sb = sky blue

ok, this is getting really frustrating.

I went to the ecu and first of all this makes me miss my celica...it was sooo easy to find pins and splice into them due to the easy location on the celi...

What a mess...I got the harness disconnected and there is no Red/Black wire...I did find the wire going into pin 23 which is white....actually a vast majority of the wires are white.
I spliced into that but no luck getting the raptor light to react.
I changed the cylinder setting to 1 and set the shift light to come on at 3500 rpm to test but nada...
I hooked up a volt meter and since I was alone I couldn't try while hitting the throttle but I got a 0.15 volts on idle...not sure if that is accurate or not.

Anyone have any thoughts?
Could I maybe have a bad raptor light?
is the .15 volt correct at idle ?

Your best bet would be to do two things.

First, find the ec.pdf for the '05 350Z. Look up the ECU wiring diagram and confirm the color and pin number for the 05.

Second, you should VERIFY the signal before hooking anything to it. The best way to do this is to monitor the frequency of the signal. Since it is a fuel injector the frequency should be really low, somewhere around 10 hz.

Another trick that may work (which I wouldn't recomend due mostly to laziness) is to run the tach wire directly to the injector under the hood. Of course this means taking apart the upper and lower intake manifolds which is very time consuming. At least this way though you can see the actual wires on the injectors and eliminate all guess work.

Its a shame that Nissan built the ECU the way they did. Its the only ECU I have ever seen that has one plug. The Subies have 5 different plugs which makes it much easier to find the desired wired. Even the Dodge Neon has two plugs!

Could it be that the colors are off because I have a unichip and it comes with it's own harness?

How can I verify the frequency, voltage before hooking anything up? Based on the design I can only get to the terminals if the harness is unplugged and if it's unplugged...well, no ecu.

yes, it is a shame, both location of the ecu and the one plug...on the celi I can stand over it and have 4 or 5 plugs, so much easier

You're splicing into the Unichip harness? You need to splice into the stock ECU harness.

I am splicing into the harness that connects into the stock ECU. I just thought maybe since all the color codes are off on mine that this harness is coming from the unichip

I would look on the other end of the Unichip. Also, I don't measure at the actual terminal, I find the wire. My meter has a set of alligator clamps with 'embedded nails that put really small pin holes in the insulation, so you can probe without actually stripping back any insulation.

I just checked the APS Installation instruction and I was right, the OEM harness plugs into the Unichip and the Unichip harness plugs into the Stock ECU, that explains why my wires don't have the right color codes.

I'm going to try and locate the unichip and so the stock harness

The Unichip should be mounted behind the side kick panel.

FINALLY!

I bought the alligator clamps and a better multimeter that reads frequencies. Of course it only stated what the max frequency is until I read the manual where it stated 20hz to 20khz...well, that didn't work.

I traced back to the oem harness that's plugged into the unichip and found the red/black wire going into pin 23...I hooked it up and voila it works.

now getting there was such a freaking nightmare...I swear this car was developed by midgets that swore revenge on anyone taller than 2 feet....

I also just realized that I spliced into the ignition signal on my prior attempt because stupid me didn't account for the harness beig upside down when you look at the wires...duh...

Anyway, all is working now, thanks for those who helped giving me pointers!
