Hey guys thanks for all the info. I agree with a lot of things said but i'm just trying to decide what to do. My plans are to be different, that is why i like the RB26, i also like the idea of an LS1. Put some turbos on that thing and you have a screamer. And to answer your questions i am going with a stand alone unit to minimize headaches, and for ease of tuning. The car is a possible SEMA contender this year, so we have to pull off something awesome. and i think the motor swaps have the best ring to it. I would also like to be able to put down 700hp without worring if the 10k i just spent on my built block was a waste.

why swap the VQ for a motor that is heavier? The 2jz is a heavy SOB but if 800whp is your goal then by all means...
The RB26 and SR20 and lighter (especially the SR20) and both can make 400whp, and the RB can easily make 500-600+

i was watching an option dvd and noticed the esprit rb26 with 700hp doing a time attack in it. i thought of this thread and thought the vid belongs in here. go to about 7 minutes in and watch widebody gray 350. they explain a bit about it.

I wouldn't trust an LS1 anyway...burn oil like ***** and too many people I know constantly have issues with them.

I'm also wondering where you come up with the oil consumption comment. The only cases of oil consumption I'm aware of with LS1s beyond owner negligence/abuse has been in the early Corvette models that had a ring-flutter issue that was fixed under recall.
