This is what I found underneath my baby once she laid to rest for the final time. Does anyone know what this could possibly be?











Any guesses? Just curious.

i have no idea,

 

A portion of the upper oilpan. The gasket RTV sealant is the giveaway.

 

Thanks, it seems like it had to be pretty violent to blow a piece of my motor off like that. You can see on one section that it was just torn off what ever it was secured to!

 

Ok, thanks. Can that give any clues to where damaged occured in or approximate to the motor or probably not?

 

no way to tell exactly what part of the motor it came from exactly, but i agree it is part of the upper oil pan area. i'm sure you want to hear good news, but when a piece of the block is laying on the ground, it usually means you are starting from scratch my friend.

That's what I was afraid of.

 

there is a chance that the majority of the trauma to your motor is on the bottom side of the block...if the piston/rod let go downward and punctured the block/oil pan immediately, this could have saved your heads

When I blew a motor a few years ago, the piston exploded and bounced around inside the cylinder for a split second, making the cylinder head look as though someone took a chisel to it

When goingdeep blew his motor, the rod came through the side of the block immediately, seized the motor, and his heads were completely unharmed!

Oh, and I've torn apart many a motor, and I can't picture which part of the upper oil pan that piece belongs to..when you pull your motor and have it disassembled, please reveal where that came from, out of curiosity for us all

Thanks for the positive spin Todd and I will post for sure once the build begins.

 

It actually looks like a piece of the stock oil pump to me. Not that it helps to know with that kind of damage.

 

I am looking at it again and I think possibly the portion of the aluminum plate that holds the rear main seal around the crank nose.

 

i can see the oil pump being a possibility..we should start a raffle..WHO CAN IDENTIFY THIS PIECE..you win a bent oem rod!!!

 

I like the "flux capacitor" theroy, I'm an idiot though. I thought it was something to do with the warp drive......DUHHHHHH!

 

looks like the rear main seal plate. But how would that get messed up? Take pics of the block curious minds want to know

my vote is for the top rail or the upper oil pan or the bottom rail of the main block.
