Question Catalytic Converter for FI. Why? And where to find a good set.

This is the question that alot of people ask me. Why do you run Catalytic Converter when you are FI? There are actually two reasons why I do.

1. To reduce the exhaust noise. I like a deep tone but not excessive noise.
2. Reduce the smell of fumes.

Now with that said, a good set of aftermarket cats for the 350z is very hard to come by. I think the best I have seen was a 2.5" 200 cell metal substrate.

Now my question is do anyone know of a company that cells a 4" 100 cell metal cat for the 350z? I know such a thing exist for Porsche TT.

Does anybody have any leads for this product?

Thanks in advance.

I did a pretty extensive search when I was deciding what I wanted and I found nothing... I'm not even sure where you can get an element to have it custom made... But if you have them custom made, please let me know what you do.

I am currently running UTR's 2.5" 200 cell metal substrate cats with my APS TT system and I don't think I am suffering too much with regard to my spool times... about 500 rpm difference to full boost when compared to 2.5" test pipes. Of course, I am at 420whp@8psi... At your power level, I would imagine that these cats would be far more difficult to deal with.

Good luck with this!

I can think of another reason.. to pass yearly vehicle emissions inspection, if your state requires this..

I run test pipes at the track. But for the street I need the car to be a little more civil. In Cali you do not want your car to sound like a racecar when cruising the highway. That is a sure way to get ticketed and possibly sent to the state smog referee. Like I said, Porsche aftermarket (http://www.fabspeed.com/996tt.html) has this product available. Even a 3.5" 200 cell metal cat would be a huge improvement on what is offered to us now.

Look at the way they are built... The small and the large ones have the same size element... same internal flow area. That means that the pressure is going to be pretty darn close to the same. Looks a little dicey to me. It might be interesting to see if they make larger ones though.
