Exclamation *Blew My Motor*

May my VQ RIP it gave me 57,101 miles of happiness, power, and damn good times-to that I hard Friday night....

Friday night on the way to a Z meet of all places my motor let go. Went WOT in 2nd around 3000rpm's at almost 4000rpm's I heard/felt what sounded like nasty detonation so I let off. Heard the most horrible noises and felt like something hit the firewall. Engine died, pull over 300ft oil streak behind me. I knew it immediately. My GF was scared and didnt know WTF had just happned she still swears my dash moved from something hitting it

I did everything right, had a GREAT conservative tune, timing was good, A/F's good, return fuel system, HKS ignition, and still it blew. Car sat on the side of the road pouring out oil from the undertray as I waited for a tow truck. First one shows up says "nope, no way Im towing that". Guy measured my stock front lip 3.5" off the road, was nice enough to call me a truck he knew could tow my car without scraping BAD.

Pull the undertray off when I get home, and see 2 holes towards the back of the block. Pieces of aluminum were laying on it Dont know what to say right now, all of you FI guys running more power and for MUCH longer than the 3000 miles this kit lasted on my car are lucky. This goes to show even when you take all precautions the car gods arent always on your side. Ill post pics later. Thanks to Charles (Integrity on the boards) for not going to the Z meet and shooting the $hit with me on the side of the road while we waited for a tow truck and then greiving with me with some beers and shots...

In an Arnold voice "ll be back"

Sorry for the loss bro... We all know you will be back and there will be many more good times to be had Z or no Z!

For all you Co ck riders.. Bert doesn't need any blow jobs, just say you're sorry for the loss.. Too much pole smoking going on on these boards, it's making me kind of ill..

Bert, she will be missed man.

wow, it sucks and sorry to hear that... I remember seeing your thread putting your TN kit on not long ago. Man, it shows even with worlds of F/I knowledge and extensive due diligenece done won't help in this situation.

I really wanted a turbo-ed Z but now I am backing off because even the most knowledgable ones got burned....

Sorry to hear about the bad news, hope you get it back on the road soon. Get one of those built long blocks or short blocks and bring your baby back to life.
R.I.P. to the old engine.... WS

Damn man sorry to hear about your luck. I wonder what the deal was. I was just debating on pulling the trigger on the TN or waiting for the 1.5. It seemed the TN with a safe tune and staying around 400 whp was safe on a stock block. I guess the VQ bugs have yet to be tamed.

Good luck, keep us updated.

Thanks guys...Im a little upset Ill never get the chance ot better my 1/4 times as I had another .2 in the set up. Worst part isnt that it happened, I ws almost expecting it, I just wanted to make it through the summer you know, now my summer is likely ruined....we'll see though I have options and Im looking into whats best. For now, likely do a block, cams, and max the turbo. Should be around 500whp, we don treally know as its only been done by AAM on Modified's car and that was without cams, I may do headwork. Later Ill get serious and do a larger snail and so on...with nearly 500whp, Ill be needing a cage to run down the 1/4

Also-this post wasnt intended to put down TN or AAM or anybody. Many know I shared my install and experiences with everybody-I dont blame anybody for this its just a risk we FI Z owners take. Some guys last 30K miles some last 3K....just a reminder even if you do everything right, you can still have issues.

Damn Bert...that SUCKS!!!!

We continue to hear stories of our Z's breaking in some fashion. Axles, motors, etc...

I know we have a few bright tuners on this board, but I keep coming back to this engine doesn't do well under boost.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

P.S. Dibs on the TN Kit!

Keep your head up!

That sucks Alberto. I haven't gone turbo on any of my cars since 94...for just this reason. Been spraying nitrous on almost every car ever since. No problems thus far. Still haven't slapped any form of FI on the Z....my bike will do for now.

I see a new Gixxer in the near future for you Alberto !!

Posted some more pics for you in the nitrous forum. You know you want one!
