Wink Info on my vorech setup.

I figured i would share some info on my setup i am doing on my maxima w/ you guys since it is virually the same motor .Although i don't own a 350z, i lurk around here alot becuase i do plan on purchasing one when i graduate college next semester and my family owns a g35. I figure it will be a easy switch over since most of the stuff i have will bolt right up on the 350

The car is a 2000 maxima in which i dropped in a vq35. The 2000 max originally came with a vq30de-k which i have had supercharged for over a year. I spun a rod bearing on the dyno a few months ago(tunning error on my part) so i decided to swap in the vq35 while keeping the vq30 timmining equipement so i could use my stock ecu. Also i plan to use the wastegate to regulate peak boost(probably will set peak at 12 psi). The plan is to make this a reliable setup while squeezing the most potential out of it as possible(a thin line ). I am trying for +400whp, but we will see what happens. The car should be running this week after a long wait due to some cam install issues.

Here is the setup:
Vortech S/C with 2.62 pulley
Custom intercooler setup with aluminum 3" charge pipe (intercooler is 26x6x3 bar and plate)
Cooling Mist w/a injection kit
Nismo R-tune cams
ARP rod bolts
70mm throttle body(from a pathfinder since my car is drive by cable)
Hotshot headers
ATP boost actuated 3" exhaust cuttout
Apexi WS2 exhaust
Greddy Emanage Blue (includes ignition harness, injector harness, support tool)
Greddy profec E-01 boost controller & emanage programmer
Tial 35mm wastegate
Greddy bov
SARD fpr
Power Enterprise 510cc injectors
Zeitronix WB O2 w/ display

Exterior:
Volk Gt-N 18x8(front) 18x10(rear)
Custom paint job (bmw jet black)
HID headlight swap
Stillen body kit
JIC coilovers

Here are a couple of pics:

I am seriously torn here. I put the 2.62 on so i could have up to around 13 psi, but i don't want to start out that high. Maxima guys have been running up to 15 psi w/ proper tunning on a vortech, but based on what i have seen here that might not be a good idea. I will probably set the boost controller for around 9 psi till i get her running right and slowly go from there. I thnk alot of the problems seen on here w/ blown motors has been a ign timming issue. I saw a dattalog of a 350z ign map vs. a 3.0L max and it was amazing. 350 guys have a very aggressive timming map stock imo opinion. I think w/ a conservative timming map, the 350z guys should be able to run as much boost as the 3.0L maxima.

thanks

I only used the vq30 timming covers, timming gears and timing chain. I did this in order to bolt the SC up to it since they do not make a SC to fit the fwd vq35.

i asked about the crank becuse a sentra guy here had a plan of using that along witht eh timing chain, gears and cover to acheive a lower stroke, ideal for FI applications (atleast for turbo). I'm not aware of it making any difference (positive) for s/c applications. Good luck on the project..
I agree that 350z guys use aggresive timing but we lack in the higher RPM power and thats the best and cheapest way to get some back.

I am using a tial 35mm wastegate that will be welded on to my charge pipe about 8 inches from the blower outlet. The wastegate will vent to atmosphere and will be controlled w/ a Greddy Profec E-01 boost controller/ emanage programer.

I got the info from the thread that was posted a couple of months ago about the guy w/ the g35.

but is it worth adding your name to the list of blown motors?
